Be ,it known that l, (lonoosv lt. [limonasox. a citizen ot' the United States, residing at Tilton, in` the county ot' 'l`itt and State of Georgia, have invented new and iiscliil yImprovements in Clothes-lhicks, ol' which the 'following is a specification.

This invention relates to new and iiset'iil improvements in clothes racks lor holding` and drying small articles ot clothing and the like, and the principal object; otl the invention is to provide a device ot' this character which maybe easily placed in operative. position and when not in use may be t'olded iip so as to occupy but litt-le room.

Another object ot2 the invention is to so arrange the device that it; may be used as a stand in the middle ot' the room or it may be secured to the wall thereof. s

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple and durable in constructionI` reliable and ellicient in operation and one which can be lmaniitactiired and placed upon the market 25 at a mininnnn cost. l`

The invention also consists in certain ot hcr features ot' construction and in the combination and arrangement ojttlie several parts. to be hereiinitter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specilicaflly pointed out in the appended claims.

As shown in these drawings lY indicates the base having a pair ot lugs 2 in the center thereotI to which` is pivoted the stamlard :5. The standard has its lower hal t o't' less width than its` upper hall'. -t indicates a plurality of arms hinged to the standard at the sides thereof and 5 indicates arms hinged to the front and rear ot' said standard at the upper end thereof. As shown the upper side arms are ot slightly less length than the standard 'while the lower sido arms are ol' substantially halt' the length ot the upper arms. The upper arms are carried by the pivot pins t which are carried by the brackets 7 secured to the front and rear ot' the standard Specification of Letters Patent.

As hetore stated the device may be secured to a wall instead ot being placed in the middle ol" the room and in this case the base is placed in parallel position with the standard and then said base and standard is suitably secured to the wall, siieh as by screws or the like. It will thus be seen that the device may be easily and quickly set. up and the catches will firmly hohl simili articles of clothing and tho like. Alter the articles are dry the device ma)r be lolded so as to occupy but, little room.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim:-

l. A clothes rack comprising a base, a standard hinged thereto, upper and lovver arms hinged to each side of thestandard, the upper arms being of, substantially twice the length of the lower arms', said standard having a lower portion of reduced thickness for forming 'spaces for receiving the lower arms when the same are in lowered remate position, pivoted braces for holding said arms in raised position, and fastening means on said arms.

2. A clothes rack comprising a base, a standard pivoted thereto so that saidbase may be swung with its upper portion against the rear edge lof' the standard, a block at the upper end of said standard on the rear face thereof, said base having openings therein so thatthe same may be secured to a Wall, arms hinged to said standard at the sides thereof and at the front and rear,

for holding said arms in raised position, said standard having cut away portions for receiving said braces when the arms are in inoperative position, and catches carried by' .said arms.
