To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES ROBERT, :i citizen of the United States, residing at Cedar Rapids, in the county' of Linn and Sta-te of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Garment Hangers, of which the following is a specification. y

This invention relates to garment hangers and pertains particularly to that class adapted for use in supporting or accommo dating a number of garments in a compact and advantageous manner,'andy which may also be readily movable in an inoperative position to -occupy a minimum amount of space when notin use.

An object ofthe invention is the"pro vision of a device cheap in manufacture and novel in construction embodying foldable frames particularly adapted for use in suspending garments in4 closets or other small spaces, or lwhich may be used advantageously 'for display purposes.

Another object of the invention is to provide a novel locking means whereby the'same may be folded and elevated into a vertical position against its support and locked in such position when not desired.

Another advantageous Ifeature of the device is that it may befolded when it is desired to use only one frame of the same, and thereby economize in space occupied.

With the above and other objects in View, this invention consists in the combination, arrangement, and construction of parts, all as hereinafter more fully described, claimed,

Throughout the following detail descripl tion and on the several figures of the drawings, similar parts are referred to by like reference characters.

The device embodying this invention is constructedrof wire or other suitable material and comprises an inner frame or section 1 and outer frame 2, said frames being preferably rectangular in shape, and the inner frame being pivotally mounted in supporting brackets 3 .secured to a Wall or other support 4, by meansV of screws or the like. The outer frame 2 is pivotally secured to the frame 1, as clearly shown in Fig. 2, the extremities of the Wire beingbent around the transverse member of the frame. 1. Attached to the Wall 4 a suitable distance above the brackets 3 are secured the flexible supporting members, such asl chains 5 and 5', provided on both sides of the frames 1 and .and preferably connected to the frame 2 at its points of pivot and to the outer transl verse member of said frame 2, the chains being adapted to support the frames in a horizontal extended operative position.

The extremities-of the frame l are peculiarly formed, being bent inwardly first through the supporting brackets 3 and back upon themselves to form the lateral arm 6, then 'upwardly and forwardly to form the angular locking member ,7, said locking member having a recess 7 therein.

T he outer transverse member of the frame4 2 has formed therein the hooks -8 which perform a dual function, being adapted for use as supporting hooks for garments when the device is in operative position and also adapted to engage with the lateral arms 6 When folded to lock the frame 2 in inoperative position, as when folded against the support 4.'

The device as thus described may be placed in a closet or any other preferred place for the support of garments in large numbers, affording a very compactarrangement when in usel and the same may be readily folded into inoperative position when not desired by taking hold of the Fig. 3.

When it is desired to use only one frame of the device, the frame 2 may be folded upwardly and upon the frame 1. It Will be apparent that the hooks 9 on the frame 2 Will still occupy proper positionv for use in suspending garments in coperation With the hooks on the frameA l, affording a very compact device for the purpose desired.

:Having thus fully described my invention, what is claimed as nevv7 is l. In `combination with a support, a garment hanger comprising frames pivotally secured together, brackets secured tosaid support for pivotally mounting said frames, flexible members adaptedv to hold the frames in extended operative position, and locking members formed in vone of the frames adapted to engage with said brackets to hold the hanger in folded or inoperative position.

In combination with a support, a garment hanger comprising frames pivotally secured together, brackets secured to said support for pivotally mounting said frames, flexible members adapted to hold the .frames in extended operative position, locking members formed in one of the frames adapted to engage with said brackets to hold the hanger in folded or inoperative position, and hooks formed in' the .other frame to lock'the same in folded or inop-l erative position.

3. In combination with a support, a ,garment hanger comprising frames pivotally secured together, brackets secured to said support for pivotally mounting said frames, flexible members adapted to hold the frames -in extended operative position, one of said frames being formed with lateral arms and provided with locking members having rel cesses therein to .engage with said brackets to hold'the hanger in folded inoperative position,- and hooks formed in the Iother frame to engage with the lateralarms aforesaid to lock the last mentioned frame in inoperative position.

In combination'vvith a support, a garment hanger comprising frames pivotally secured together, a support for pivotally 'mounting said frames, andflexible members secured to the support, one of said frames being adaptedto fold upwardly upon the other into lnoperative position and also adapted to fold beneath the other frame when the latter is raised into folded inoperative position.

5. In combination with a support, a-.garment hanger comprising an inner frame, brackets secured to said support for pivotally mounting said inner frame, an outer frame pivotally secured to the inner frame, flexible members secured to said support and attachedto'the outer frame to hold said frames in extended horizontal operative position, lateral arms formed in the inner frame and mounted insaid brackets, angular locking membersyhaving recesses therein formed in said frame and adapted to engagevvith the brackets aforesaid to'lock the hanger in folded inoperative position, hooks formed in the outer framel adapted to support garments and to lock the latter in inoperative' folded position, and garment hooks slidably mounted upon said frames. .v
