Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMMA TUI'TE, OEBEBKELEY, CALIFORNIA.
- rum.
1,269,980. Specification 0! L tt Patent Patented June 18, 1918. No Drawing. Application filed Kay 28, 1817. Serial No. 171,200.
ingredients, combined in about the proportions stated, viz: White lead 1 gallon Turpentine 1 quart Carbolic acid 10% solution with water 1 pint Good results may also be obtained when the ingredients are varied within reasonable limits. For instance the amount of turpentine or carbolic acid solution employed may be increased or decreased to vary the thickness of the paint and also the softness of same. In preparing the composition or paint it is Cpreferable to first mix the white lead an the turpentine and then add the carbolic acid solution by thoroughly agitating. The paint may at the same time be colored by Elam addition of any suitable coloring mat- The paint thus prepared may be used as an ordinary paint but is particularly adapted as a waterproof and heat-resisting covering for cloths and fabrics of different kinds. It may be applied to the fabric by a brush or any other suitable means. The paint when dry is comparatively soft, thereby leaving the fabric pliable and sufficiently flexible to permit it to be folded in an suitable manner. The paint does not crack when the fabric is folded and as it is waterproof, it can readily be appreciated that it may be washed off at any time. It has also been found that exposure to heat up to 800 Fahrenheit does not destroy the life of the paint nor the fabric. It may, therefore, be termed fireproof to a certain degree.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- 1. A paint consisting of white lead, turpentine and carbolic acid combined in about the proportions described. 4
2. The herein described composition of matter to be used as a paint, consisting of 1 gallon of white lead, 1 quart of turpentine, and carbolic acid 10% solution with water 1 pint thoroughly mixed by agitation.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
