WATERPROOFING COMPOUND. 1
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 791,538, dated June 6, 1905, Application filed January 16,1905. Serial No. 241,389.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, CHARLES G. Co-
BURN, residing at Orange township, Hancock tion.
This invention relates to a water roofing compound for coating rubber, canvas, eather, cloth, andsimilar fabrics and materials, and has for its object to provide a liquid compound of this character to be used as a dress' ing for rendering the fabric or other material lmpervious to molsture and g1v1ng the same afresh glossy appearance.
With hese objects in view the invention consists in a composition or compound formed of the following ingredients in the proportions stated: crude petroleum, three,
quarts; liquid asphalt, one pint; white drier,
- one pint; beeswax, four ounces, and gumarabic, four ounces. I
In preparing the compound the beeswax and um-arabic are placed in the petroleum and the latter heated to asufficient extent to melt the beeswax and then allowed to cool,
after which theliquid 'asphaltand white drier are added vand the several ingredients thoroughly mixed. The compound thus formed is applied to the fabric or other material to .be treated with a brush or in any other convenient manner and allowed to dry.
The above-described compound or dressing applied in the manner stated renders the fabric soft and liable and impervious to moisture. It will not injure the most delicate fabric nor crack or peel off and will preserve the fabric for an indefinite period and give the same a smooth glossy finish.
The compound may be mixed in any desired shade by the addition of suitable pigments or other coloring material.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimedis I The herein-described waterproofing comound the same consisting of crude petroeum, three quarts;liquid asphalt, one pint; white drier, one pint; beeswax, four ounces, and gum-arabic, four ounces.
