TAHIS CORNELIS SCIIENK, OF AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS, ASSIGNOR T0 J'OHANNES- WILHELMUS ALBERTUS DI: WILD, OF ROTTERDAM, NETHERLANDS.
CLAIPING DEVICE FOR THE CONNECTION 0F POLES, BALKS, AND THE LIKE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TAMIS CoRNELrs SOHENK, a subject of the Queen of the Netherlands, residing at No. 93 van Woustraat, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clamping Devices for the Connection of Poles, Balks. and the like, of which the 'following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device with the aid of which poles, balks and the like of a particular thickness can be quickly and readily connected and which device can be Fig. 2 is a cross section through the line AA in Fig. 1; viewed in the direction of the arrows to said line. i
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of two balks with the clamping device applied in a position read for bein tightened or just after having een untig tened. v
The clamp 1 is at its extremities provided with hooks- 2 in which a locking piece 3 of fiat iron can be inserted. At a distance. from said hooks 2 equal to the width of the flat iron bar 3, i. e. at the places indicated by 4, the legs of the clamp are bent up. In the position shown in Fig. 1 the points 5 and 6 of the locking piece and the point 7 of the clamp are situated on a brokenline. The lockin piece 3 and the clamp 1 form withthe ba ks a knee lever, which is in steady balance, the edge 6 of the locking piece resting in the angle 4 of the legs of said clamp. Under extraordinarily heavy loads the balks 8 and 9 might slide along each other sothat the same can be turned with force.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented une 18, 1918.
Application filed omber e, 1910. Serial No. 126,400.
in the. lengthwise direction across a little distance, in which case the knee lever would 'betightened stronger and the pressure between the balks would be increased. Experiments have proved, however, that by means of the knee lever the balks are pressed against each other so tight that at normal loads no sliding in a'perceptible degree takes place.
I position shown in Fig. 1. In order to enable this to be done by hand a spanner or similar tool maybe placed on the locking piece 3,
great Having now described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent is A clamping device for connecting poles and balks comprising a U-shaped clamp, obliquely extending legs on said clamp extending beyond the poles hook-shaped portions at the end of said legs and a locking piece inserted in said hook-shaped portions' with one edge thereof bearing againstthe outer pole so that said locking piece can turn on said edge into locking position against the obliquely extending legs of the clamp when the latter is turned aboutits contact edge with the inner ole.
In testimony whereof I a x mysignature v in presence of two witnesses.
