To all 'whom t may concern.'

Be it known that I, JOHN H. PRINGLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sac City, in the county of Sac and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Magazines, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved stove magazine vand the principal object of the invention is to provide a magazine having a movable closure for the bottom thereof so that the coal can be held within the magazine except when the re needs replenishing thus preventing waste of coal in case the lire goes out. Vith magazines now in use there is an open lower end communicating with the fire box and as the coal burns, more feeds down from the magazine. If the fire goes out it is necessary to remove the coal from the magazine or take the ashes and coal down through the grate. This causes the coal to either be lost or damaged. This is prevented by the device which applicant has provided as the coal is held in the magazine and can only flow out of the same when the closure is open.

This device is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view in vertical section showing the improved magazine mounted in a stove.

Fig. 2 is a view in transverse section through the magazine with the closure and operating mechanism for the same shown in top plan.

Fig. 3 is a view showing the magazine in elevation, the open position of the closure being shown in dotted lines.

The magazine 10 is mounted in the stove 11 above the grate 13 and is provided with an inclined neck 14 which leads to the inlet opening of the stove so that coal may be poured into the magazine and the cover or lid 15 then put in place. This magazine may be held stationary in the stove in any suitable manner and extends to a point adjacent the grate so that when opened, the coal may fall directly upon the live coals 16 without falling to any great extent.

collar is formed. This collar carries the depending arms 2O` which are connected with the collar by rivets 20. A yoke 22 has its arms 21 pivotally connected with the arms 20 and carries a disk 23 which is secured to the bridge of the yoke 22 by the rivet 23 and when in the position shown in Fig. 1 serves to close the lower end of the magazine and prevent the coal from passing out of the same.

When in use the magazine is filled with coal and the lid 15 then put in place. When it is desired to feed coal to the fire, the handle 24:, which extends throughthe opening 11 in the casing 11 and has the arm 24 of the fork of the handle 24: connected with the arms of the yoke 22, will be grasped and drawn outwardly a suiiicient distance to permit coal to pass out of the magazine onto `the fire burning in the grate. The prongs 25 are provided for engagement with the stove shell as shown in Fig. 1 so that this handle may be held in an adjusted position by engagement with the wall of the casing and thus the closure plate or disk 23 is retained either in a closed or an open position. Under ordinary circumstances it is not desired to have the closure plate open at all times but if for any reason it is so desired the handle can be drawn outwardly until the closure is moved to the dotted line position Shown in Fig. 3 and there will then be a clear passage for the coal through the magazine. It will also be noted that if it is desired to feed a continuous stream of coal to the fire the closure disk can be moved to a point where it will be partially open and thus coal permitted to feed slowly to the fire. At any time the closure can be moved to the closed position thus cutting off the flow of coal to the lire. I have therefore provided a magazine which is so constructed that the flow of coal through the same can be easily controlled.
