vented certain. new and useful Improvements in Guns, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in liquid discharging guns and has as its'special object the provision of a device attachable to a rifle or the like, adapted to deliver a stream of blinding liquid at a considerable distance.
A further object is to provide such devices in the form of attachments which may be readily applied or removed from the barrels of the rifles and which are operated in an easy and convenient manner.
These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevational view showing a conventional type of gun and indicating the application of the invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional view taken through the center of a liquid gun made in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 3 is a similar view of the same, the parts being shown in another position.
Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view, taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is another transverse sectional view taken on line 55 of Fig. 3, and
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary bottom plan view indicating the method of securing the device to the gun.
An army rifle or other like support 10, may be used, to which is attached, by clips 11 and 12, a cylindrical casing 14, the clips being formed of spring material, the extending portions of which act as resilient arms partially surrounding and grasping the gun.
To further support the tube 14, there is at the rear of the case 14, an angular bracket 16, secured by screws 17, the other foot 18 of the bracket having a circular opening 19 from which extends a slot 20, the opening 18 being adapted to receive the head 21, of the screw 22, forming in efi'ect a well known form of bayonet joint, the screw 21 being fixed in the supporting element at all times.
A head 23 is formed at one end of the cylinder 14, the same being imperioratc and into which the screws 17 pass, whereby the device is held to its support. The opposite end of the tube 14 has engaged with it a conical head 24, containing a central longitudinal passage 25, while extendingrean wardly into the'cylindrical casing 14, from the head 24, is a tube 27, in which is fitted a plunger head 28-,connected by the rod 29, with a sliding block 30 from which extend projections 31, fitting the bore of the tube 14, and a handle 32 by which the block can be operated.
A coiled tensional spring 33 surrounds the inner cylinder 27, and is attached at one end to a lug 34, While the other end oi the spring is engaged at the outer extremity 35, of a rod 36, secured in the block 30 so as to normally draw the plunger toward the point of the device, the handle element 32 extendin outward through a slot 38 formed in the tu e 14.
In operation, the device having been attached to a support, the handle lever 32 is drawn back, together with the plunger, from the point 25, and upon it. being released, due to the pull of the spring 33, forces the liquid contained in the tube 27, outward through the point or nozzle 25 and it will be obvious that a chemical solution may be used such as would at least temporarily, blind a person subjected to the stream.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is.
1. In a liquid gun, the combination with an outer cylindrical casing and means for securing said casing to a support, of a conical point secured at one end of said casing, a tube formed with said conical point extending rearward into the casing, a plunger fitted to said tube, means for manually drawing said plunger outwardly, and a spring coiled about said tube adapted to draw said plunger toward said point.
2. In a liquid gun, the combination with a cylindrical casing, means for connecting said casing to a support, a conical point affixed to one end of said casing, and a rigid head at the other end of said casing, of a tube formed with said conical point extending rearwardly into said casing, a plunger slidable within said tube, a plunger rod extending from said plunger toward the rear end of said casing, a block in which said plunger rod is fixed, means for operat ing said b oclr, a rod engaged with said blocls extending parallel of said plunger rod; and
beyond said tube, and a spring 'encir'oling said tube, one end of said spring being engaged with the inner end of sai treart vardly into said easing, a plunger rnovaldle in said tube, .as lidin g block in said cylinder, aplunger rod connectir'ig between said tube, and its other end engaged with the outer end of signature.
"plunger and said block, a handle formed Withsaidblock extending outwardly through a slot formed in said cylinder, a rod secured in said block extending arallel to said plunger rod exteriorly of sa d tube, and a coiled tensio'aar spring surrounding said tube, one
end of said spring being engaged at the iniierextrelnity of said tube and the opposite end to the outer extremity of said plunger r0d vl1ereby said plunger and blockare held in a normally oxtendedposition.
, In testimony whereof I have afiixed my FRANK GADEOKI.
