TATTING-HOOK AND ATTACHING MEANS THEREFOR.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, NETTIE V. TURNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Smyrna, in the county of Volusia and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tatting-Hooks and Attaching Means Therefor, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to tatting hooks and more especially to attachments therefor through the medium of which the tatting hook will be always accessible to the user.

An object of the invention is to provide means for pendently supporting the tatting hook on the person of the wearer, to prevent casual displacement thereof, at the same time permitting the hook to be conveniently used when desired.

Another object is to permit the hook to be retained on the person of the user, when not in operation, in a readily accessible position without interfering with the user in any way.

Other objects as well as the nature, characteristic features and scope of my invention will be more readily understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claim forming a part of this specification.

Referring to the drawings Figure 1 is a front elevational view of a. tatting hook and an attachment constructed in accordance with my invention.

Fig. 2 is a side elevational view thereof.

Fig. 3 is a detail enlarged fragmentary View of the fastener used in this invention.

In the drawings a tatting hook 1 comprises a shank, one end of which is equipped with a bill 2, while an intermediate portion of the shank is off-set and then bent to provide an eye 2, the opposite terminal of the shank from that upon which the hook 1 is formed, being off-set in parallel relation to the said first off-set portion, whereby to provide a loop 3 of substantially ovate configuration.

A chain 4 of the usual or any desired configuration has one end thereof engaged with the eye 2, the opposite end thereof being engaged with a loop 5 of a fastener 6. The fastener 6 comprises a single strand of resilient wire, one terminal 7 of which is pointed, said strand being convoluted, as indicated at 8, to provide a spring, the

strand then being extended downwardly in parallel relation with the portion of the strand which is provided with the pointed terminal 7 and is then bent to provide laterally extending eyes 9, subsequent to which the strand is convoluted to provide the loop 5 heretofore described, which is at right angles to the eyes 9. The strand is then extended from the loop 5 rearwardly beneath the eyes 9, and subsequently terminates in a hook member 10 which embraces the shank of the strand, which is equipped with the pointed terminal 7.

In use of the device, the pointed end T of the fastener 6 is adapted to be engaged with the apparel of the user, the most convenient place having been found to be around the waist, thereby reducing the length of the chain 4 to a minimum, and at the same time placing the hook I in a readily accessible position to the user. When the hook 1 is not in use, the ovate loop 3 may be engaged in either of the eyes 9 by merely exerting pressure upon the loop and engaging the open end thereof with one of said eyes, since said open end is slightly flared, as illustrated to advantage in Fig. 1, in order to facilitate engagement of the loop with the eyes 9.

It will be understood that the above description and accompanying drawings comp'rehend only the general and preferred embodiment of my invention and that various minor changes in details of construction, proportion and arrangement of parts may be made within the scope of the appended claim without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention.

I claim:

The combination of a tatting hook having a loop opening in the direction of the body of the hook and engaging said body at its open end and provided with an eye, an attaching pin having a closed eye with which the open loop of the hook is designed to engage when the hook is not in use, and a flexible element connecting the eye of said hook with the eye of said pin to hold the hook suspended when in use.
