To all lwhom it may concern.' s Be it known that I, ROY N. Con'rs, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Marshalltown, in the county Aoit' Marshall and State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Thermostatic lFan, of which the mounted to turn and thermostatic ly contit) ,surrounding atmosphere.

'Ihe object ofthe invention is to provide a new and improved thermostatic tan 'more especially designed for use on automobiles and similar vehicles for controlling the air circulated through the radiatorv to maintain the water in the radiator at a desired temperature.
In order to accomplish the desired result, use is made of a fan wheel havin vanes trolled means mounted on the fan and connected -with the said vanes for turning the`- latter into a more or less open or closed posi 'f the tion according to the temperature o A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in

The head of the fan wheel 11 is mounted to turn on a shaft or 'stud 12 and on the said hub-10 is secured a pulley 13 connected by belt with other machinery for imparting a rotary motion to the fan wheel 11. It is understood that I do not limit myself to the means shown and described for rotating the fan wheel 11 as other suitable' means may be employed. 0n the hub '10 of the tan wheel 11` are secured radially disposed shafts 15 connected at their outer ends with ain-rim 16, and on the said shafts 15 are mounted to turn loosely vanes 17 of the usual shape. 0n the inner ends ofthe vanes 17 are secured bevel pinions or segments 20 in mesh loosely on the hub 10. 'Ihe bevel gear wheel 21 is provided with wings .22 disposed ra- A" cured to one end of the driving pulley 13.

From the foregoing it will'be seen that in the radiator at a desired temperature. When the temperature of the surrounding v by the use ot the thermostatically controlled turning means for the 'vanes the latter are automatically turned into a. position to pump morevor less air according to the tem, perature of the surrounding atmosphere.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:-
l. A fan comprising a hub, vanes mounted to turn on the said hub, pimons on the said vanes adjacent the hub, a gear wheel mounted to'turn loosely on the' hub and in mesh with the saidpinions, a driving means for the said-hub,l and thermostatic bars connecting the said driving means with the said gear wheel.
2.
