WILLIAM F. ROTHENBERG, OF DENVER, COLOBAD.
VENTILATING-FAN.
Be it known that I, 4l/ViLLmiir F. Iio'rinzN- anno, a citizen of the United States, residing at Deliver', in the county ot Denver and State ot' (.olorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VentilatiI1g-l1`ans; and I do hereby declare the :l'ollowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of `the invention, such will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. i
rihis invention relates to Ventilating fans and has 'toran object to provide a Vfan especially adaptelfl :t'or operating in constricted positions and to draw in air at the center and discharge it at or adjacept the circu1nference.
tui-ther object ol the, invention is to provide a, t'an ot' the general type illustrated in .Patent- No. 595,725 issued lune 25th, i911, but is an improvement thereon.
A.. further object of the invention is to provide a :tan having blades so constructed as to permit the .tan to be run in either direction with equally etlicient service.
A 'further object of the invention is to provide a tan having blades extending in a radial plane and with a closed back inclos ing such blades and with a central disk covering a portion ot the central ends of the blades opposite the back.
l/Vth these and other objects in view the invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangement of lparts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings:----l1`igure 1 is a view ot the improved lan in diametrical section associated with an intake air pipe. Fig. QV is a i'iew ot' the fan in side elevation assoeiatet'l with an, intake air pipe and with an outlet pip Vsurrounding such l'an. Fig. 3 is a view ot' te fairin iront elevation.
Like characters of reference. indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
'"he improved 'fan which forms the sub ject matter of the )resent application comprises a dished baci or casing 10 having a spider 11 ri idly secured to its back and provided. wit a hub 12 adapted to aecominodate a shaft 13 by which the spider and casing are rotated.
Within the casing 10 a plurality of blades Specification of Letters Patent. Application inea April ci, 1912.
lf'atented Sept. 28, 1913. seran No. 692,928.
111 are erected, such blades being positioned upon radial planes extending from a central tube 15 to the outer periphery of the casing 1t) and preferably wider than the depth of the dished casing. At the center of the tube 15 and the blades 14'connected therewith a disk 16 is provided covering the inner ends of the blades and serving to strengthen such blades, the blades preferably being inclined along their outer sides from such disk to the outer periphery of the (lished casing.
While not essential to the present invention, it is desirable to o crate the fan in conjunction with an intali 17, the diameter ot said pipe heilig greater than the diameter of the disk 1G and having its open end disposed adjacent such disk with an open annular space. surrounding such disk. When the fan is rotated in either direction the centrifugal i'oree ot' the blades let will cause the air to be thrown outwardly as indicated by the arrows and unless confined such air will of course be circulated freely about the fan. Under certain conditions it is desirable to put an outlet. pipe or easing 1H around said fan as shown in' Fig. i). wluireby the air thrown 'troin said .fan 1S retained within the easing and discharged as indicated by the arrows in said Fig. 2.
I claim:
.1. .ln a device ot the class described comprising a pipe 'tor admitting air, a fan axis placed in line with said pipe, a dished back secured to said axis, hladesparallcl with the axis of the=pipe, a disk secured to said axis and yadapted to obstruct part of the pipe, said bladesl extending between .said disk and dished back and means :tor rotating with the axis.
e pipe shown at` 2. In li device of ther-lass described comprising a pipe having an outlet, a fan axis disposed belore the outlet of said pipe, a dished back rigid' with said axis, a disk rigid with said axis and parallel with the plane portion olf the dis-hed back, blades per-1 pendicular to the disk and secured to the axis and means for rotatingr the axis.
In testimony whereoi` I atlix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
