Be it known that l, 'llmooonn SemseALL, a citizen ofthe United States, residin in the city, county, and State of New ork, have invented a new and useful Attachment for Clocks, of which the following is a specification. I a

My invention consists of an amusement at tachment for a clock or other motor embodying a figure on the body ,of the clock, the same having a head with openlngs therein for the appearance therethrough of the representations of-human eyes, and a tongue, said eyes being formed on a sheet or plate to which is attached a hanger and stifiener therefor, said tongue being a member of said hanger, vibrating motions being imparted to said hanger and plate by the train of gearing of the clock whereby motions are imparted to the eyes and tongue, thus producing an attractive amusement.

Referr'ng to the drawings, 1 designates the train of gearing of a clock, and 2 designates the case therefor.

3 designates the escapement lever of said 1 train, the same having attached to its axis 4 the arm 5 which is jointed as at 6 to another arm 7 above the same, said arm the vertically-extending recess 9 111 which said levers 5 and 7 are adapted to oscillate.

which while servin to stifien said plate has in its upper end t e opening 15 which is adapted to be fitted on the pin 16 of the form of an elbow, the vertical limb of which is driven into the adjacent portion of the head, said pin thus comprisin an axis for said hanger and consequently for said plate, it being noticed that the upper end of the arm 7 is secured to said hanger, whereby the latter receives oscillations, in the present case, to

the right and left,it being noticed also that the back of the head has therein the recess 17, wherein said plate 13 isadapted to have its play. i

In the lower portion ofv said head is the opening 18 which simulates open lips of the figure, and in which isfreely receivedthe tongue 19 which simulates a human tongue, 7 and is composed of the lower portion of the hanger 1,4: bent out forwardly therefrom and adapted to occupy said opening 18, it being of lesswidth than the latter, so as tofbe therein.

It will be seen that when the clock is run- .capable of oscillating to the right and leftfl ning, oscillating motions are imparted to the arms 5 and 7, and consequently to the plate 13, the latter thus moving the eye balls to the right and left behind the sockets 11, and

also moving the tongue 19 to the right and left in the open lips 18, thus producing an attractive and amusing attachment for the clock.

Of course, any train of gearing may be employed to operate the movable members of the attachment through the 'mediumof the arms 5 and 7,-without necessarily limiting the same to a clock.

Owing to the jointed arms 5 and 7, the axis of the escapment lever imparts the proper throw to the formerto cause the plate13 to oscillate quickly and also to a short extent, whereby the simulations of the eye balls play within the width of the simulations of the eye sockets without being cov ered by the latter, The tongue also moves qllliickly and oscillates to a short extent int e lips 18 avoiding widening of the latter.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

I 1. A figure provided" with a head having therein .openin simulating eye sockets, a plate adapted to be mounted on said head ack of said eye-sockets, said plate havin therein simulations. of eye balls, a mechanically operated motor, and 'ointed leversconnected with each other an respectively with said late and a member of said motor where y shortoscillations' are imparted to said plate and conse uently to said eye balls.

2. A figure provided with a plate having therein simulations of eye balls, a head having therein openings simulating open lips, a hanger mounted on said head back of said lips, said hanger having thereon the simulation of a tongue which latter is adapted to occupy and play in said 1i s, said hanger being adapted to stiffen sai plate and to form means for the suspension of the late in said head, a mechanically operate motor, and a connection for said hanger, and a movable member of said motor, whereby oscillations are imparted to said hanger and consequently to-said tongue.

3. 'A figure provided with a'head having therein openings simulating eye sockets, and open lips, an oscillating hanger mounted on said figure back of said head, a plate carried by said hanger having simulations of eye balls, atongue on said hanger adapted to play in said lips, said hanger being adapted to stiffen said plate and-to form means for the suspension of the plate on said head,

and jomted levers formlng a connection with said hanger, and a-movable member of a train of aring adapted to oscillate said hanger an .consequently said plate and tongue.

4. An upright piece provided with a head having, therein 0 enings simulating eyevsockets and open ips, a plate back of said open li s, a hanger mounted on said head back 0 said openings, a plate secured to said hanger having on its front face simulations of eye balls, a simulation of a tongue on said hanger adapted to play in said hPS, and a mechanically operated motor havin a movable member adapted to be connecteg with said hanger for oscillating the latter and said tongue.
