To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JACOB ANSPACH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas-Burners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to gas burners, and particularly to burners used in furnaces, stoves and the like. The object of the invention is to form an improved burner which is suitable for low gas pressure conditions, and which can be installed in existing coal furnaces. The construction is such that it can be set in place through the feed door of an ordinary furnace without interfering with the grate or other parts of the furnace, so that the furnace can be used with other kinds of fuel should the gas pressure fail. The shape of the burner is such that the flame can be properly directed up or toward the parts of the furnace to be heated. Means are also provided to prevent back firing.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in spective View of the burner. Fig. 2 is a front view of the burner. Fig. 3 is a detail in section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 6 indicates the mixing tube provided with an ordinary gas connection 7 and air chamber 8.
At its front end the mixing tube is connccted to a fan shaped fitting or head 9. This comprises a tubular neck 10 which screws onto the mixing tube and a flared nozzle part 11, the sides of which converge toward each other, and the front edge 12 of i which describes a curve or segment. As
shown in Fig. 1 this segment is somewhat less than a quadrant, but it may be extended or lengthened to an obtuse angle instead of the acute angle illustrated. The discharge opening or mouth by the construction shown comprises an elongated curved slot through which the flame is discharged to spread in a relatively flat sheet. In order to prevent back firing, I set a screen 13 in the mouth of the head, the edges of the screen being held in grooves at opposite sides of the mouth. This diaphragm prevents flashing back, in a well known manner.
A burner constructed as above described may be set in position either through the fuel door or the ash pit door of an ordinary coal furnace, without interfering with the grate or other parts, so that either gas or solid fuel can be used, and the peculiar shape of the head permits the flame to be directed as desired, and spreads the same in a sheet in the combustion chamber.
I claim:
A gas burner comprising a mixing tube and a head at the front end thereof, said head having flattened converging sides terurinating in a narrow segmental mouth substantially parallel to the axis of the tube and directed at an angle thereto and at one side only of said axis, whereby the flame may be projected at different angles in the plane of said axis, by turning the burner on said axis.
