Description
1. R. KLIN.
HOLDER FOR PAPER CUP APPLICATION FILED NOV-20.1916.
JOHN a. mint, or DAYTON, onro, Assronon 'ro rnn GERMLESS r'nrnn our COMPANY,
. or DAYTON, OHIO, A conronnrron on OHIO.
nonnnn non rnrnn ours.
Application filed November 20, 1916. Serial No. 132,366.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN R. KLIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in'the county oi Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Paper Cups, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in holders for paper cups, it being more particularly adapted for. holding the sanitary paper cups in common use at soft drink dispensaries.
The object of the invention is to provide a holder in which the cups may be easily and quickly inserted and ejected, and also to provide a holder which will be simple in construction, economical in manufacture and efi'ective in operation.
In the accompanying drawings Figure l is a vertical section of a holder and cup.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail in section.
Fig.3 is a perspective view of the holder.
Fig. 4 is a view of a stack of the paper on s and their container.
he main portion 1 of the holder is in the form of an inverted frustum of a cone, the cut off vertex of which is replaced by a cylindrical cup-shaped portion 2 which may be integrally formed with themain portion 1. The cup-shaped portion 2 is inserted in the upwardly extending neck 3 of a base 4, being preferably secured therein by solderin in the embodiment shown and preferred the holder, by virtue of the relation of its main portion and base has a goblet-like form. a 7 The main portion 1 of the holder is of the exact shape of the paper cup 5 which it lSl designed to hold with the exception that the apex of the paper cup will project into the cup-shaped portion 2, this cup-shapedportion 2 being for the purpose of not only giving clearance to the apex of the cup but also f to form a receptacle for any leakage of the liquid contained in the cup so that the holder maybe readily cleansed. The extreme outer edge of the main portion 1 is provided with an inturned bead or flange 6 (shown in detail in Fig. 2) and is also provided about the sides thereof with a seriesiof openings 7.- idrom Fig. 2 it will be noted-'ltliat the under side of the flange 6 is slightly channeled so as to engage and hold the edge of the paper cup, an that the flange is substantially unfixed or unchangeable in circumference.
The operation of the device is as follows The paper cups 5 are stacked in telescopic form in a suitable container 8 as shown in Fig. 4, with their apexes projecting upwardly. The holder is then inverted and pressed down over-the top-most cup, causing the edge of the cup to spring in under the bead or flange 5 of the holder and thus firmly Patented May is, rare;
securing the cup in'the holder. After the cup has been used, it may be readily ejected I L from the holder by inserting a finger or fingers in one or more of the openings 7 and pressing inwardly.
By the arrangement described it will be seen that a holder is provided in which the .paper cup may be inserted in an easy and quick manner without the necessity of touching the cup with the hands.
he goblet-like form of the holder greatly facilitates the above described operation of engaging the holder in inverted relation over theuppermost cupof the stack. The container 8 is usually of a depth to acconnnm date fifty of the cups but the goblet-like form of the holder enables itto be inserted into the container throughout the entire dept-l1 thereof; and consequently no dihiculty is met in engaging the holder with a cup and removing, the cup from the relatively deep contai er even when, as shown, only a few of the cups remain in the container.
1Having thus described my invention, claim:
1. In a holder for paper cups, 9. main porconforming to the holder, the edge portionof the outermost cup will spring under the said flangd and said flange will function to prevent the displacement of said cup from within the: holder.
a 2. In a holder for paper cups, a main portion of fixed conical form having along its upper edge an inwardly directed annular flange arranged whereby, upon the holder being presed upon a stack of nested cups conformingto the holder, the edge portion of the outermost cup will spring under the said flangeand said flange will function to the sand Ifiiliil portion through which a finger exercise n'essure on the ive to fiisengage its ege cup which i.
01 paper cufis compris' 1 ruled tubal fixed conical munication with its ime-rior a cup-like p0rtion which is fixed and secured in said neck and receives the drippings from the cu which may be arranged in said main portion. in testimon maereof, 1 have hereume set my hand this lth day of NcvemberiQiG.
