IMPROVEMENT IN MINERS LAMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,606, dated May 7, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM G. WINEIELD, of Hubbard, in the county Trumbull and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful article of manufacture called Miners Lamp, and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked there- The nature of my invention consists in securing the lid'or cap of the ordinary miners lamp77 to its body through the medium of screw-threads in the cap and on the neck of the lamp, the cap being furnished with an elastic packing-disk, air-chamber, and openings for` the ingress of air.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my new article of manufacture, Iwill proceed to describe its construction.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my new article of manufacture-viz., a miners lamp. Fig. 2 is a Vertical section of the same.
The body `A of the lamp is constructed in the usual manner, but the neck B is provided with screw-threads, which are tted to the screw-threads in the ilange C of the cap D.
The cap is provided with an elastic disk, e, of cork, rubber, or other material. Above this disk is an air-chamber, f, formed by making the end of the cap spherical, as shown at h. The end hand disk e are each provided with an opening, t', for the ingress of air. By providing the cap with an elastic packing-disk combined with the screw-threads of the cap and neck of the lamp, all leakage of oil will be prevented, and through the medium of the chamber f and openings i air will be admitted into the body A, thereby causing the oil to feed the Wick properly. The air-chamberf, elastic packing-disk e, and openings i, combined with the screw-threads of the cap and neck are the improvements of this lamp over that granted to me May 23, 1871, No. 115,143.
What I claim is- A new article of manufacture-viz., a mincrs lamp, constructed as described and shown, and provided with a screw-cap, furnished with an elastic packing-disk, e, chamber f, and airopenings i, as herein set forth.
