To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ROBERT EMMETT LEwIs,'a citizen of the United States, residing at Moultrie, in the county of Colquitt and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Reinforced-Cement Fence-Post and Anchor-Block for Wire Fences, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to fence posts. has for its object to provide a construction in which the wire fencing may be quickly attachedto the post and securely fastened thereto at the top and bottom by the upper and lower strands engaging in grooves or ways formed so as to readily receive and prevent accidental disengagement of the strands interlocking with the post at the grooves, and in a manner that will tend to prevent vertical and also longitudinal movement of the wire constituting the fencing.

To the accomplishment of the foregoing and such other objects as may hereinafter appear the invention consists in the features hereinafter particularly described and then sought to be clearly defined by the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part thereof, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a post embodying the invention, and showing portion of a wire fencing attached;

Fig. 10 is a perspective of an anchor that may be used for attaching a supplemental strand at the top of the post In the drawin the numeral 1 designates a base member designed to be set into the ground and have the lower part of the fencing attached thereto; and 2 the upright or post which is formed with an overhanging head or cap 3. The base member, post and cap will preferably be molded or formed of concrete or cement, and the post may'have reinforcing rods and strands 4 molded therein. The base member 1 has formed in it, near the lower end of the post, horizontally extending slot or groove which is intersected by a slot or groove extending obliquely across the groove 5 and whereby is formed an overhanging Wall to the top of the slot or groove 5, preferably at or toward opposite ends of the groove,

Under this construction the It lower strand of. the fencing is introduced through the obliquely extending slot or groove and when it enters the slot 5 it assumes its normal position parallel with the slot 5 and under the overhanging top wall of the slot so that it is prevented from moving upward out of the slot. In the head 3 there is formed a slot 7 extending through from side to side and which is intersected by a slot 8 extending from the face of the head rearwardly so that the top strand of the fencing may be introduced into the slot 7 through the slot 8 and thus the fencing will be supported at the top by the head. The cap or overhanging portion of the head is formed with a vertically extending slot 9 designed to receive the upper portion of one of the vertical strands of the fencing which will lie against the face of the upright or post 2 and to which it may be fastened by staples 10, if so desired. By having the upper portion of one of the vertical strands fit in the vertical slot of the cap or head, the fencing will be held against movement in the direction of its length. The formation of the slots at the base and top of the post securely hold the fencing against vertical movement and the vertical slot in the face of the cap holds it against longitudinal movement, and the attachment of the fencing is easily end expeditiously made. At times it is desirable to secure the bottom of the fencing at a point between the posts to afford firmness to the fencing and for that purpose a base member formed as previously described but with the upright or post omitted, such a member being illustrated in Fig.- 7 of the drawing.

At times it may be desired to provide at the top of the fencing an additional strand of the barbed type as indicated by the numeral 11.
