MIRROR AND CASING THEREFOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May "Z, 191%.
Application filed May 12, 1917. Serial No. 168,310.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. J AMESON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Niagara Falls, in the county of Niagara and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mirrors and Casings Therefor, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to mirrors and cases therefor, and more particularly to improved and simple devices of the character mentioned of durable construction and capable of cheap manufacture.
Certain of the objects and advantages will be in part noted hereinafter in connection with the following description of the accompanying drawing, which illustrates a typical embodiment of the invention, and in which-- Figure l is a perspective view; and
Fig. 2 a sectional view on line 2-9. of Fig. 1.
The device is designed especially for military use, and comprises in general a flat metal plate 1 having polished nickel reflecting surfaces and inclosed within a protective casing comprising cover sections 2 and 3 hinged together along one edge. The sections of the case are preferably of stamped metal and provided with relatively offset pairs of hinge portions 4 and 5. The mirror plate 1 is also provided with hinge portions 6, integral or suitably fixed thereto, and constructed and arranged to interfit between corresponding hinge portions of the case sections. A common pivot rod 7 extends through the various hinge elements and thereby secures the parts together.
In order to further utilize the device and enhance its value, the front and back case sections are preferably provided with interior means whereby pictures or other desired articles may be carried therein. For this purpose, in the embodiment shown, each case section is provided with a flat metal resilient; border piece 8 secured to the section along the bottom and left free along the remaining edges, whereby the piece may be slightly withdrawn at the top edge of the case for insertion therebelow of a flat sheet, such as a picture. When so positioned the resilient member presses upon the subposed sheet, holding the latter flatly and securely in place.
A resilient clasp lock is preferably pro vided to hold the device closed, and as shown this look includes a resilient strip 9 secured to the inside upper corner of the section 3 and extending medially to terminate in a hook portion 10. A stud 11 is secured to the hook 10 and projects through an aperture in the upturned edge of the case section. Correspondingly positioned on the opposite case section is a beveled locking lug 12, so that when the two sections of the easing are pressed together the lock automatically engages. Release is similarly effected by manipulation to disengage the locking elements.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a device of the character described, in combination, a stamped metal case com- ,prising cover sections having complementary hinge portions, a metal plate to fit within said casing and having reflecting surfaces, a common pivot rod for said sections and said plate, and means fixed within each of said sections but yieldable with respect thereto for holding a picture therein.
2. In a device of the character described, in combination, a flat metal plate having polished reflecting faces, a protective inclosing case therefor comprising cover sections hinged together, said plate being swinging]. Y .supported at the hinged edge of said sections, and a yieldable locking means for said sections.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM A. JAMESON.
