Device non. OPERATING SNAP-SWITCHES,
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filedAugustl l, 1917'. Serial No. 186,247.
' To all whom it'may concern Be it known that J oLEs D. BISCAYART and FERNAND GAILLETEAU, citizens of the United States, residing at Atlanta, in thecounty of Fulton and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in'Devices for Operating Snap-Switches; and they do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon,
which form apart of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in attachments to buttons of snap switches, afiording a convenient means for attachment thereto and consists of a single cord operated device, having various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification and in which Figure 1 is a view in elevation showing the application of our invention to a switch button.
Fig. 2 is an elevation of the inner face of the device.
Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view on line 3--3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a detailed view showing a slight modification of the invention.
Reference now being had to the details 0 the drawings by letter:
the plate at right angles thereto to retain the weighted member E between the flanges and in the position shown in the drawings. Said plate has a circular outlined opening F formed therein, and H is a ratchet wheel having a central raised circular outlined portion H which is journaled in the said opening and lugs I are struck up from the flanges and are bent at right, angles thereto and serve to retain the ratchet wheel within the opening forming a bearing therefor.
Said circular outlined raised portion of the ratchet wheel is provided with an elongated slot, designated in the drawingsby letter K. andlL is the button clutch member, bent substantially U shape andextending through said slot. Said member L has laterally extending lugs L which are bent at right angles at a point designated by letter L and passing through slots H formed in the circular outlined portion of the ratchet wheel and which serve to securely anchor the clutch member to the ratchet wheel. Said ratchet wheel has laterally extending fingers 0 parallel to each other and which fingers have angled lugs O projecting from the edges thereof and which are adapted to engage over the ends of a switch button to securely anchor the clutch member to the button. A pawl, designated by letter T has pintles projecting therefrom which are pivotally mounted in a lug S integral with the flange ofthe plate and in an aperture in the latter, said pawl being adapted to engage the teeth of the ratchet wheel. Said pawl, it will be noted, has a laterally projecting lug T guided in the slot A formed in the plate and which serves to limit the outer throw of the pawl.
- In the modified form, shown in Fig. 4-. of
the drawings, it will be noted that instead PatentedApr. so, 1918.
moving in one direction and turns idly over the same when moving in the opposite direction, otherwise the modified form embodies the same construction as disclosed in Fig. 2 of the drawings. Upon reference to Fig.
4 of the drawings, it will be noted that the marginal edge of the opening in which the ratchet wheel is journaled, is designated by dotted lines, and that a space intervenes between the marginal edge of the strucleup portion '11 and the circular dotted line and by reason of a lateral or wabbling movement, which willbe imparted to the wheel as the ratchet teeth come in contact with said pawl.
. a-tor, by pulling upon the cord, will cause the ratchet Wheel to be given a partial rotary movement byythe. pawl, engaging the teeth thereof, thus causing the button to turn. dWhen the cord is released, the weight will cause theplate to return to its normal position, the pawl turning idly over the ratchetwheel-.- 7
:What, we claim to be new is Anattaclnnent for turning switch buttons, comprising aplate havinga circular outlined opening therein, a weightedmember mounted upon one end of the plate, and
When r a cord connected to the plate at the end opposite the weighted member, a ratchet wheel having a circular outlined struck up portion journaled in the side opening, said ratchet wheel having an elongated slot therein, a button clutch member engaging said slot and having fingers for attachment to the button of a switch, means for fastening said member to said wheel, a pawl pivotally mounted upon the plate and having a laterally extending lug movable in a slot in the plate.
In testimony whereof We hereunto afiix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
