IMPROVEMENT IN WINDOW-BLIND SLATS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,464, dated May 7, 1872.
Specification describing a Slat for Rolling Shutters, invented by ALoIs KOHLER, of Williamsburg, in the county of Kings and State of New York.
The invention relates to the peculiar form of slat, as hereinafter fully described and subsequently pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of the slat; Fig. 2, a perspective view of a shutter with the slats connected together.
A represents the slat, made with any suitable molding, form, or design upon their broad faces, and (J D are the two ends thereof. The end 0 has acnrved groove, 0, and a rear proj ection or heel,c, which correspond, respectively, to the tongue d and recess d of end D. The heel 0 forms the fulcrum upon which the adjacent slat turns when folded on the roller, while the tongue d is held in such a position that, when the slat is unrolled, said tongue moves round into the concavity with absolute certainty. By this construction a series of slats may be fastened to the flexible straps of leather or fabric so as to form a cheap shutter, and one which will not fail to joint even when warped.
I am aware of the Vrydagh shutter, which has a circular tongue and corresponding groove; but this requires a concealed hinge, while it is much more expensive than a shutter made of my slats, in which, even if they warp, the joint does not become dislocated.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The slat for rolling shutters, provided with ends D 0, having tongue and groove d c, and heel and recess 0 d, constructed and arranged as and for the purpose described.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 12th day of December, 1871.
ALOIS KOHLER.
