To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, Jor-rx J. BAUMEISTER and JOSEPH M. MUNNING, citizens of the United States, residing at Michigan City,in the county of Laporte, State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Music-Leaf Turners; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full. clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to a music leaf turner.

An object of the invention resides in the provision of a device by means of which a plurality of sheets of music may beturned and which is so constructed that the turning operation will be automatic. v

A further object of the invention resides in the provision of means within the control of the operator for controlling the turning of the sheets of music.

A further object resides in the provision of a device which may be readily attached to and detached from the music rack of a piano.

A still further object of the invention resides in the provision of a simple and inexpensive device of the character specified.

lVith these and other objects in view, such as will appear as the description progresses, our invention comprising the combination and arrangement of parts as set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claims.

The embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing includes a pair of frames one of which illustrated at 1, consists of a continuous piece of wire, one end of which is provided with a loop 2 and the other end of which extends through the loop and is turned laterally as shown at 3. shaped and the upper end of it is provided with an eye which pivotally engages the bar 5 of the section 1, at 6. The lower end of this section 4 is hinged to the bar 5, through the medium of a terminal eye, disposed between the loop 2 and the bill 3. These sections 1 and 4 are provided with depressed seats 7, 8 and-9 respectively, formed in their lower end portions. In these seats clamping members 10, 11 and 12 are pivotally mounted, which members are formed from resilient wire and are provided with felt covered gripping jaws 13 which are adapted to engage the music rack of the pia'no so that the frame will be supported thereon. A plurality of U-shaped sheet supporting members 14 are hinged to the bar 5 at their upper ends by terminal loops which encircle the bar. The lower ends of these members 14 terminate short of the bar and in superposed relation. Secured at one end to the bar 5 which they encircle are coil springs 15 which are, at their other ends, secured to the ends of the corresponding members 14. The tendency of these springs is to throw the members 14, which are provided with clips 16 for the attachment of the sheets of music, from the section 4 to the section 1.

In order that this action may be controlled, we have pivoted, on an extension 17 of the section 4, a trip member 18 which is provided with a bill 19. This. bill is adapted to successively engage fingers 20 that depend from the members 14, and is held into engagement with these members by a compression spring 21 which is secured to the trip member 18 and to the member 12.

In operation the sheets of music are placed on the members 14, one being attached to each member by the clip 16 on the member. The members are then turned so that they are superposed on one another and lie over the section 4 in which position they are retained by the bill 19.

V hen it is desired to turn one of the sheets it is only necessary for the operator to strike the grip member 18 at which time the bill 19 will be disengaged from the uppermost member 14 and it will be allowed to swing, under the influence of its actuating spring 15, over the section 1, the remainder of the members 14 being prevented from moving by the bill 19 which immediately returns to its initial position under the action of the spring 21.

lVhile we have illustrated and described a particular embodiment of our invention, it has merely been for the sake of convenience and we do not wish to be limited to that particular embodiment as it is obvious that numerous changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit of the invention or eXceeda ing the scope of the appended claims.

What we claim is:

1. A music leaf turner comprising a pair of open frames mutually connected and having depressions in their lower end portions, a plurality of sheet-supporting members, each having an eye at one end pivotally engaging a side of one of the frames for movement to lie over the frames alternatively, a plurality of helical springs encircling said frame side, each of the springs being attached at one end to said side and at the opposite end to the remaining end of a sheet-supporting member, means mounted upon one of the frames for holding and for releasing said sheet-supporting members successively to the influence of their respective springs, and clamps confined each upon a depressed portion for holding the frames to a support, said springs being tensioned to move their respective supporting members to positions over the opposite frame when released.

A music leaf turner comprising a pair of open frames mutually connected, a plurality of sheet-supporting members, each having an eye at one end pivotally engaging a side of one of the frames for movement to lie over the frames alternately, a plurality of helical springs encircling the side of the frame with which said eyes are engaged, each of the springs being attached at one end to said side and at the opposite end to the remaining end of a corresponding sheet-supporting member, and means for Copies of this patent may be obtained for engaged, each of the springs being attached at one end to said side and at the opposite end to the remaining end of a corresponding sheet supporting member, said frames having their lower sides depressed at points, an extension projecting from one of the depressions, a wire having an eye pivotally en circling the extension and having one end disposed in the path of movement of the sheet supporting members, the opposite end of the wire constituting an actuating lever, means for holding said wire yieldably in the path of the sheet supporting members, and a wire having an eye engaging each of said depressed portions and having its end portions in parallel relation and constituting support gripping jaws, said springs being tensioned to move their respective supporting members to positions over the opposite frame when released.
