IMPROVEMENT IN BLACKlNG-SPREADERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,399, dated May 7, 1872.
Specification describing an Improvement in Blacking-Spreaders, invented by HUGH S. KERR, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
My invention relates to the mode of securing a sponge to a handle for the purpose of spreading blacking on the boot preparatory to the polishing process. It consists in securing the sponge to the handle by a wire loop, which is twisted into a shank and inserted in a wooden handle.
Referring to the drawing, Figure 1 is a section through the sponge just above the ring. Fig. 2 is a side view of the blacking-spreader.
A is the sponge, first cut around the center with a sharp knife to form a groove, in which the wire loop is inserted. B is the spongeholder, made by bending a stout piece of wire and twisting the ends into a shank, which is inserted securely in the wooden handle 0.
