IMPROVEMENT IN ASH-SIFTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,296, dated April 30, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN S. HOLOOMIB, of Syracuse,in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Ash-Sifters; and I do same.
This invention has relation to coal or ash sitters; and consists in the construction and novel arrangement of a combined operatinghandle and lifting-bail, as hereinafter descriied, together with screen-handles, as specifie Referring to the drawing, A represents a rectangular box, to the bottom of which are attached two side bars or cleats, B, supportin g between them two rollers, b. 0 represents a screen, the lower part of which fits within the box A. The sieve-frame rests on the step a, while the edges of the screencase 0 rest on those of the box. D represents a lid hinged to the screen, and designed to prevent the dust from rising when the sifter is agitated. E represents handles by which the screen may be lifted from the box. F represents a bail pivoted to the sides of the box A. Said bail is provided with a handle at F for convenience in agitating the sitter.
The coal or ashes is placed in the screen and properly agitated by moving the box A to and froa work easily performed when the box is mounted on rollers, as shown.
When it is desired to carry the apparatus the bail may be raised to a perpendicular position. The notches d, shown in the handles E, hold the bail when it is raised and prevent the box from shaking or tilting over. The box A receives the refuse coal or ashes.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The screen-handle E having the notches d, in combination with the box A having the drag-bail F and a sifter, as and for the purpose specified.
