Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 30, 1915.
Application filed October 7, 1914. Serial No. 865,494.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. WHITE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oneida, in the county of Nemaha, State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sieves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in sieves, and particularly to sieves for screening sand or coal.
One object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is capable of being readily transported from place to place.
Another object is to provide a device of this character which includes supports adapted for movement to form handles to facilitate the moving of the device.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawings: Figure l is a side elevation of the device when in use. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device showing the same in the position when being moved. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the joint of one of the supports showing the same in supporting position. Fig. 4: is a perspective view of the joint showing the same moved into the position in which a portion of the support forms a handle.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 represents a suitable frame the forward lower portion of which carries the ground engaging supporting wheels 11. Mounted on the frame are the shifting screens 12 and 13, these screens being driven by means of a connecting link 14: which is connected with a shaft 15 and with crank arms 16 carried by the screens. A tapering bottom 17 is disposed in the frame and has a discharge spout 18 for carrying off the fine sifted sand. At one end of the screens is a discharge spout 19 for taking off the coarse sand or gravel. The shaft 15 is driven by means of a hand wheel 20 which is connected to the shaft by means of a belt 21. The rear portion of the frame has the depending members 22 the lower end of each ,of which has connected thereto a combined leg and handle 23 which is connected to the member 22 by means of a hinge 241. This hlnge is formed with stop lugs 25 and 26, the former of which permits the leg memher to swing rearwardly into a horizontal position while the other lug 26 permits the member to swing slightly inward from the vertical depending position.
In the position shown in Fig. 1 and Fig. 3, the leg members support the rear of the frame, the lugs 26 engaging the upper portions of the hinges 2 1 and preventing the legs from swinging any farther which would tend to permit the frame to fall in the rear. In the position shown in Figs. 2 and a the leg members are raised into a horizontal posltion and form handles by means of which the rear of the frame can be raised and the device moved in the manner of a wheelbarrow, the lugs 25 engaging the other sides of the upper portions of the hinges 24 and preventing the handle member from swinging above the horizontal position.
Detachably mounted on the frame by means of the clamps 28 is a hopper and chute 27 for delivering the material to be sifted to the rear portion of the sifter.
What is claimed is:
A portable frame, supporting wheels at the forward end of the frame, depending members rigidly secured to the rear end of the frame, combined supporting leg and handle members hingedly connected to the lower ends of said rigid members, means on the hinged connections for preventing the movable members from swinging outwardly beyond the handle position, and means on the hinged connections for preventing the movable members from swinging inwardly beyond the frame supporting position.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN H. WHITE.
Witnesses:
H. L. WIKOFF, R. L. STEIBLER.
