pplication led February 2, 1917. Serial No. 146,208.
To all whom t may concer/n:
Be it known that I, ANDREW KoLoDY, a subject of theEmperor of Austria, resident of Chicago, county Illinois, have invented certain new and useful improvements 'in Locks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in bolt locks of the type ordinarily used in securing'doors with relation to their jambs.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a bolt lock in which all of the several screws or other securing means are so positioned as to be entirely covered by the bolt when in a locked position, thereby preventing the unauthorized removal of the same.`
A further object is to provide means whereby the bolt may be positively secured when in an engaged position so that the door may be held against opening from either side.
' tively at '0i' aed part These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this specification, and in which A Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the application of the bolt in an engaged position.
Fig. 2 is a fragmental plan view showing a portion of the attaching means in position to be secured to the door.
Fig. 3 is a similar plan view of the same showing the parts in a diierent position.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing a por- A tion of the independent locking means.
Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view taken on the center line of the lock.
Fig. 6 is a similar sectional view showing the parts ina released position, and
Fig. 7 is a transverse sectional view taken screws are rigidly engaged within thewoodon line 7-7 of Fig. 5. v
ln the drawings, the-numeral 10 is appended to the movable element or door of the structure, the stationary or rigid element being indicated by the numeral 11.
To this stationary element is secured a keeper14 by means of the integrally formed,
flanged end extensions -15 and 16, respecthe adjacent and opposite ends, the same'being positively engaged to the )amb f the door by -crews 17 a1'- Specicat'ron of Letters Patent. A

ranged closely adjacent to the cylindrical part 14 of thekeepcr. l
Upon the door element l() is first-disposed a plate 20 transversely of the bolt, the same having a rentrantly turned, overlying ange 21 containing a circular opening 22 registerable with the slot 23 formed in the lower section 20 of the plate.
Contained within the space formed between the elements 20 and 21 upon one side of the bolt is a flange 25 formed inegrally with the bolt casing 26, another out-turned flange 27 being upon the opposite side upon which is mounted a U shaped element 28, in the bottom of which is an opening 29 receptive of the screw' 30, vwhich passes through the flange 25 and slot 23 directly into the door material 10.
Formed with the U are a pair of upstandin tween them an open sot 32 and through which passes transverse openings 33 adapted to receive a shackle 35 of an ordinary padlock 36. I
As before indicated, the casing 26 is of shaped element 28 front and rear with extending flanged elements 4() and 41 containing screws 42 and 43 by which it is'sccurely attached to the door.
Slidably contained within the casing is a bolt to which is rigidly atiiXed an operating lever 46 having a through opening adapted to register with the openings 33 so as to receive the shackle of the padlock 36 when it is desired to secure the same in a locked position..
The stem 48 of the lever is adapted to operate in a longitudinal slot 50, formed in the top of the casing, and which isprovided with lateral recesses 52 and 53 respectively near the front and rear of the slot 50, receptive of the stem 48.
In applying the bolt as an entirety, the
work, while the parts are in position as shown 1n Fig. 2,
whereupon the sliding elerearwardly so as to cover the heads of the screws, preventing access to them.
At the same time, the bolt when in a locked position, overlies the screws arranged at the end of the keeper and bolt casing so as to render the same inaccessible, and obviously,
by means oi the padlock 36, the bolt may be held in a forward or engaged position Vf cylindrical keeper, a cylindrical casing, base Meeaeoe flanges formed at the ends thereof, a plate disposed transversely below said casing, and movable longitudinally thereof, said plate having a slot, a rentrantly turned, cover element formed with said plate containing anA openingr in register with the mentioned slot, lateral flanges formed with said easing one of the flanges normally covering the mentioned slot, a pair of integrally formed raised lugs secured to the other of said flanges, and a projecting lever ailixed to said bolt engageable between said lugs.
In testimony whereof I have alixed my signature this 27th day of January, 1917.
