Description

`J. A. DAY.l REVERSIBLE OFFSET FOR PLOWS. APPLICATION man 1AN.1o.'1s1a.
ATTORNEY JOHN A. DAY, OF SANTA CLARA, CALIFQRNIA.
REVERSIBLE OFFSET FR PLOW'S.
Application led January 10, 1918.
To all .Dimm z'z may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOHN A. DAY,
.and State of California, have invented certain new and useful' Improvements in Re- Aversible Offsets for Plows, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates toV reversible offset for plows and more particularly to that class of plow known as orchard plows.
rllhe objects of my invention are, first to provide a reversible offset for plows of simple and durable construction, capable of being used in orchards for plowing close to the trees, or in any place where close plowing may be required.
Second to provide a reversible offset for plows that may be offset at the inner end of the plow beam of a plow, and a reversible oifset that may be quickly adjusted as the operator may require.
rI'hird to provide a reversible offset for plows that will draw the plow straight in its v offset position on either side of the plow beam. v
A still further object of my invention is generally to improve this class of devices so as to increase their utility, durability and efficiency. n
Further objects and advantages will-appear in the following description, it being understood that various changes in form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claim.
For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof, reference is to be had to the following description. and accompanying drawings, in which-e Figure l is a plan view of my improvement in reversible oset for plows.
Fig. 2 is a side view of F ig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a detail side view of the reversible odset bar for plows.
Fig. l is a detail side view of the adjustable rear tension rod.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same numerals.
Specification of Letters Patent.
'atented Apr. 9, 1918.
Serial No. 211,160.
My improved reversible offset for plows forming the subject mattei' of the present invention comprises an angle iron 1, fastened near the rear end of a plow beam 2 by bolts 3, connected to angle iron l is reversible offset bar l by bolt 5 and opening 5", bar l being turnable on bolt 5.
Angle irons 6 are shown fastened to each side of reversible offset bar 4 by rivets 7, and are for the purpose of holding offset bar il in its offset position to plow beam 2 on either side thereof. At, or near the outer end of offset bar 4; is draw pin 8 projecting out a distance from each side of bar 4l and is an integral part of bar 4 connecting with draw bar 9 by aY plurality of openings l0.
teversible tension rod is shown at 11, connected to offset bar Ll by bolt 12 and openings l2a and 12b, the inner end of reversible tension rod 1l being connected to angle iron 13 by screw threaded portion 14 and adjustable machine nuts 15; angle iron '.13 being held in place near the rear end of plow beam 2 by bolts 16.
rTension rod l1 is turnable in angle iron 13 to the right or left as required.
. The operation of my reversible odset for plows is as follows Offset bar is placed in position on the j desired side of the plow beam 2 and connected, with draw bar 9 by draw pin 8 with the desired opening l0 in draw bar 9; this adjustment will draw the plow straight in its ofset position, when the draft is applied to the forward end of the bar 9, making the working of the plow much easier on the operator and the horses drawing the plow, when plowing close to the trees orl in any place where close plowing may be required.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
ln a reversible offset for plows, the combination of an angle iron fastened near the rear end of a plow beam, means by which the angle iron is fastened to the plow beam, a reversible offset bar connected to the angle iron,- and means by which the offset bar is turnable thereon, angle irons fastened, one on each side of the o'set bar, adapted to hold the offset bar in its offset position,
a draw pin Which is an integral pai-t of the by which the tension rod is conneetefi to l0 offset bar projecting out distance from the angie iron and to the offset bar.
each side thereof, a draw bar having a in testimony whereof I afX my signature plurality of d'openings theiein adapted to in the presence of two Witnesses. eno'age said raw pin, means or attaching Y theD draft to the forwaid end of the draw JOHN A DAY' bar, a reversible tension rod, an angle iron, Witnesses:
and means of fastening the angle iron to M. J. SELAYA,
the rear portion of the plow beam, means H. A. HALL.
