Description

G'USTAV A. l-IUBEN, 0F CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO GORDON W. POST, OFCHICAGO. ILLINOIS.
RUBBER HEEL.
ascissa Specification of Letters Patent.
Ilatcntedf Api?. 2, 191%,
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it' known that I, GUs'rAv A. HUBER, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rubber Heels, of which the following is a speciiication.
This invention relates to elastic shoe heels formed of india rubber or like resilient ,and wear resisting material, and has for its object To provide an efficient correlated structural formation of the tread and attaching surfaces of an elastic heel, adapted to afford increased elasticity to the heel in actual use, and by which a substantial attachment of the heel in place is attained by the ordinary fastening nails, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1, is a lan view of the upper or attaching face o a rubber heel constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2, is' a transverse section on line weer, Fig. l. j
Fig. 3, is a plan view of the under or tread face of s aid rubber heel, with the correlated upper face" shown in'dotted lines.
Like reference numerals indicate like parts in the several views.
Referring to the drawing, 1 designates the body portion of the heel of any usual configuration and having the upper or attaching surface, and lower or tread surface, which in the present improvement have the detail formations now to be described. 2 designates a raised marginal and continuous rib adapted to form and inclose a shallow recess in the upper or attaching surface of the heel and provide a close marginal fit after the heel is applied to a shoe to retain a body of confined air and afford additional elasticity as usual in some of the rubber heels in general use.
3 designates a central main projection arranged within the recess formed by the aforesaid marginal rim 2, and 4 designates a series of smaller projections surrounding the main lprojection 3 and within the shallow recess aforesaid. The projections 3 and 4 are of a circular configuration and have a less height thanthe marginal rim 2, so that when the heel is nailed in .place the body portion of the heel will be sllghtly distorted in an upward direction to insure a tight tit of the marginal rim 2 aforesaid.
5 and 6 designate continuous outer and inner depending ribs yarranged in spaced relation, with the inner rib G adapted to form and inclose a shallow recess in the under or tread surface 0f the heel, and which recess is subdivided by a series of ribs 7 radiating from a centrally disposed annular rib 8, with the entire series of said ribs on a common plane as shown. With the described construction an elastic and very eifective non-slip tread surface is provided, and in the preferred construction shown in Fig. 3,
the inner rib 6 aforesaid is of an indented form.
8 designates the usual nail holes formed in the body portion 1 of the heel, and which in the present structure extends through adjacent projections 4 and open-into the recess in the tread surface of the heel between the inner and outer ribs 5 and 6l aforesaid. With arrangement just described, the series of projections 4 are very effectively held in place after the application of the heel to a shoe, and the resiliency of said projection utilized in an eiiicient manner.
Having thus fully described my said invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An elastic heel comprising a body portion having its attaching surface formed with a'continuous marginal rib and a series of circular projections in the recess inclosed by said rib, and having its tread surface formed with a pair of continuous marginal ribs in spaced relation, said body portion having nail holes passing through adjacent circular projections aforesaid and opening into the space between the marginal ribs of the tread surface, substantially as set forth.
2. An elastic heel comprising a body portion having its attaching surface formed with a continuous marginal rib and a series of circular projections in the recess inclosed by said rib, the face of said projection being on a plane below the Plane of the marginal rib, said body portion having its tread surface formed with a pair of continuous marginal ribs in spaced relation, and having nail holes passing through adjacent circular projections aforesaid and opening into the space between the marginal ribs of the tread surface, substantially as set forth.
3. An elastic heel comprising a body portion having its attaching surface formed with a continuous marginal rib and a series of circular projections in the recess inclosed by said rib, and having its tread surface formed with a pair of continuous marginal ribs in spacegl relationz a central annular r1b and a series of radlatmg ribs mtermediate said annular rib and the inner man' 'nal rib, said bod portion having nail oles passing throng adjacent circular prol0
