To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GODFREY EACRE'I, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Indicators, of which the following is a specification.

The present inventionrelates to indica tors, and has for its principal objects to provide a compact, neat, simple structure adapted for carrying on the wrist, and by the use of which the wearer is enabled to indicate on a dial consecutive units of events which take place or things which happen; to provide a structure which is capable of being operated to permit the indicator hand to return to neutral.

The invention is particularly adapted for use by goliists to keep a count of the strokes require to complete the course and is therefore designed to be carried on the wrist of the player to be operated each time a stroke is made to advance the indicating hand one numeral on the dial.

With the above mentioned and other objects in view, the invention consistsin the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claim hereto appended; it being understood that various changes in the form, pro portion, size and minor details of construction within the scope of the claim may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

To more fully comprehend the invention, reference is directed to the accompanying sheet of drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view in perspective of my invention disclosing the preferred means for mounting the same on the wrist of the wearer.

Fig. 2 is a. front elevation of the invention with the crystal removed, disclosing the dial, the indicator hand and actuating means and the hand retaining pawl and releasing means.

Fig. 3 is a vertical central sectional view of the invention, disclosing the crystal in osition and concealing from view the workin parts of the device.

Tieferrjng more particularly to the drawings, wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 1 indicates a suitable base or back member in the form of a disk and the same carries at opposite side edges suitable loops 2 to which are secured the ends of straps 3 secured together by a buckle 4 and which provide a means for attaching the invention to the person of the wearer.

The back member is formed with an annular recess 5 in one face thereof which forms an annular upstanding or dial portion 6 provided with graduations 7, in this case consecutively numbered in groups of five.

A hand supporting member 8 of a diameter smaller than the diameter of the recess 5 is rotatably mounted thereon on a supporting screw 9 threaded into the casing and said hand supporting member is formed with teeth 10 on its peripheral edge and carries an indicating hand 11, which is adapted to cooperate, with the dial portion 6.

A curved operating pawl 12 is mounted between the hand supporting member 8 and dial portion 6 and carries on its lower end a tooth 13 which coiiperates with the teeth 10 and advances the indicating hand 11 one step. The pawl 12 is pivotally connected at its upper end by a. screw 14 to the lower end of a curved pawl supporting member 15 pivotally mounted on a screw 16. The lower end of the pawl 12 is beveled as at 17 and is normally forced downwardly to ride on a guiding screw 18 and liein disengagement with the teeth 10 by a sprin 19 w ich contacts with the upper end 0 the pawl supporting member'15 and forces the some upwardly. An outwardly projecting pin 20 limits the downward moyement of the pawl supporting member and a screw 21 provides a guide for the pawl 12.

A headed operating stem 22 extends from the periphery of the back member and cooperates at its inner end on the upper end of the pawl supportin member 15, and when said pawl is pushe inwardly the action thereof on the upper end of the member 15 causes the pawl 12 to be pulled upwardly relative to the guiding screw 18 and a spring 23 forces the lower end of the pawl into ongagement with one of the teeth. The throw of the pawl is suiiicient to rotate the hand support to advance the hand a single graduation. A coiled spring 24 normally maintains the stem 22 in its outermost position.

A suitable coiled hair spring 25 is seated in a. recess 26 surrounding the screw and is connected at its opposite ends by pins 27 and 28 to the underside of the member 8 and easing l, and when the hand supporting member is advanced by the action of the pawl the hair spring is placed under tension.

A retaining dog 29 pivotally mounted on a stud 30 cotiperates at one end with the teeth 10 of the hand supporting member 8 and retains the member in its advanced position against the tension of the spring 25. The dog is normally retained in engagement with the teeth 10 by the action of a spring 31 and is releasable from contact with the teeth by a releasing stem 32 which extends from the periphery of the back member and coiiperates at its inner end with the dog 29. The releasing stem is normally maintained in its outermost osition by a coiled spring 33. When the indicating hand points to zero the same is in contact with a limiting pin 34 which also provides a stop for the hand when the hand sup orting member has about completed a revo ution.

A suitable crystal 35 is positioned over the dial to exclude the dust and is detachably secured to the baelsmember by the usual ring 36. To conceal the working parts of the device from view, the crystal is formed centrally with an opaque portion 36 which is of a diameter substantially the same as the inner edge of the dial portion 6.

:1 operation the indicator hand 11 is adanced one graduation on the dial on each depression of the operating stem 22, and is held in its advanced'pcsition against the ten sion of the coiled hair spring 25 by the dog 29. When it is desired to reset the hand 11 to zero; the operator presses the releasing stem 32 which withdraws the end of the dog 29 from the teeth 10, and permits the spring 25 to return the hand to a point in contact with the limiting pin 34.

It will be apparent that I have designed an indicator which is particularly adapted for the purpose described, one which is composed of but few parts, and one which may be constructed at little cost.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Lettors Patent is:-

In an indicator of the class described, the combination of a sul'iporting member of disk like formation having in one face a central recess with an annular raised portion bordering said recess, said annular raised portion being provided on its upper face with dial graduations and constituting a dial, an indicator hand rotatably mounted upon the supporting member for movement over the said dial, operating mechanism for the indicator hand located within the central recess of the supporting member, and a cover plate for the annular dial and operating member, said cover plate havin a circular central opaque portion extending completely over the central recess of the supporting member to the inner edge of the annular raised portion bordering the recess, and having an annular transparent pjortion'overlying and extending substantia y coextensive with the upper face of the annular raised dial portion. 1 i
