CLOCK DIECLEIANISM.
Application filed May 8,
This invent-ion relates to improvements in alarm clocks, and it is the principal objectof the invention to provide an alarm clock, the alarm mechanism of which is operated by the clock mechanism.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an alarm clock, the alarm mechanism of which is silent during the normal operation of the clock mechanism, and is re leased at the time set for giving an alarm by means of a novel and improved mechanism.
These and other objects and advantages of my invention will become more fully known as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be more specifically defined in the appended claims.

The alarm clock has the usual casing 10 with face plate equipped with the dial 11 ver which the hands 12 and 13 move on a shaft 14 journalled in auxiliary support 10. and carrying at its inner end a lantern pin ion 15 in mesh with the toothed rim 16 at the lower plate of a spring casing 17, the upper plate of which, 18, has the usual toothed outer periphery, in mesh with a gear 19 on a stub shaft 20, secured in the rear wall of the casing.
A shaft 21 carrying a winding key 22, is journaled its lower end in a partition plate in casing 10 and operates in sleeve $34. Shaft 21 extends through casing 17 and has attached thereto a sleeve 25 to which one end of a spring 26 is attached, the other end of which is attached to casing 17 in the usual manner. The plate or gear 16 supports on shaft 21 a ratchet wheel 27 bet-ween the teeth of which a pawl 28 engages which is pressed and kept in this engagement by the end of a spring 29, the other end of which is attached to a pin 30 on plate 16.

The setting mechanism for the alarm comprises the shaft 38 extending through the casing 10 and carrying at the top thereof a knob 39, while its bottom end carries a hand 10. traveling over a dial 41 in the usual well known manner.
The upper end of a spring 42 normally engages the lower face of member 31 and has a lower angnlarly bent arm 43 attached at its outer end to the lower face of plate 23.
The shaft 1 carries below plate 23, gear 41- in mesh with gear 416 having a reduced gear portion 17, said gear 46 being on a stud shaft -18, journaled in plates 23 and 10. The gear portion a7 meshes with the teeth of a socket member 4:9, in which a cam member 50, is located over which a finger or tooth 51 fixed on shaft 38 glides. The upper face of the socket member 19 is adapted to engage the lower face of arm 43 to lift the same for disengaging hook 31 from gear 19, and to start the alarm when the finger engages in the cam portion.
A spring 52 normally presses the socket 419 on shaft 38 against arm 43 upon the release of the socket due to the finger engaging in the cam portion.
The device operates as follows:
The spring 26 drives 18 and 16 in opposite directions. Gear 19 on shaft 20 is nor mally held stationary by the hooked end of retaining member 31, and the spring 26 then drives the time train through gear 16, and also drives the socket member -19. When cam of the socket member 419 is rotated to align with the setting of linger 51, spring 52 urges the socket member upwards, raising spring 42, and unhooking 31 from the aperture in 19, releasing this gear or ratchet, to vibrate the alarm escapement or pallet, and sounding the alarm. Spring 26 then drives both trains till cam 50, acting against the finger 51, depresses the socket 49, and allows 31 to assume its normal position, relocking 19.
It is to be understood that such changes may be made in the general construction and in the arrangement of its minor details, such as fall within the scope of the appended claims without departure from the spirit and principle of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: v
1. The combination, in a device of the class described, of a spring housed in a two part casing, each part being formed with a gear portion, urged in opposite directions by said spring, a gear meshing with one of said gear portions, and normally held stationary by means of a hook engaging in an aperture of said gear, a time train engaged with the other of said gear portion, a socket member connected to said time train, and urged upwards by the action of a spring, said socket member being normally held down by a finger, and being released when saic finger aligns with a cam portion of said. socket, thereupon moving upwards and butting a connection with the hook holding said gear, thereby releasing said gear, and allowing the first mentioned spring to revolve the gear, said last mentioned gear being connected with an alarm mechanism.
2. The combination, in a device of the class described, of a spring housed in a two part casing, each part being formed with a gear portion, urged in opposite directions by said spring, a gear meshing with one of said gear portions, and normally held stationary by means of a hook engaging in an aperture of said gear, a time train engaged with the other of said gear portion, a socket member connected to said time train, and urged upwards by the action of a spring, said socket member being normally held down by a finger, and being released when said finger alignswith a cam portion of said socket, thereupon moving upwards and butting a connection with the hook holding said gear, thereby releasing said gear, and allowing the first mentioned spring to revolve the gear, said last mentioned gear being connected with an alarm mechanism, and upon further rotation of said socket member, said finger acting against said cam portion forces said socket member downwards, allowing said hook to re-engage the aperture of said gear to stop the alarm mechanism.
