IMPROVEMENT IN WASHING-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,128, dated April 30, 1672.
SPECIFICATION.
I, EDWARD CARTER, of the city of Troy, county of Rensselaer and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in WVashing-Machines, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to the combination of a fluted or grooved roller with three, four, or five smaller rolls, either plain or grooved, and so arranged as toipermit the passage of the articles to be washed between them, by turningthelarge roll by an attached crank or winch, the rollers kept in relative position by springs with other devices hereafter named, the whole to be used in a wash tub or tray.
Description of the Drawing.
Figural is a side elevation of a machine embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a front-end view. Fig. 3 is a back-end view with the spring. Fig. 4 is a cross-section through the rollers with braces.
General Description.
D D are the sills or bed-pieces of wood, on which the other parts rest and are attached. B B are the ends or uprights, also of wood, by
means of which the rollers are supported and kept in position, and are fitted and fastened to the sills D D. Ais the large fluted or grooved roller of wood, with metal winch and gudgeons, and rests on the concave bed of small rollers O O G G, and is held down on them by means of the springs G G, and is placed in the slots I I. E is the winch for working the large roller; F, the handle on same. G G G O are the small plain or fluted rollers of wood, with metal gudgeons. G G are the springs of metal, with wood or metal attachments, by which they may be applied to the gudgeons of the large roller. X X are braces for securing the machine to the tub.
Claim.
I claim as my invention The combination of the uprights B B, the series of rollersA C U, the metal hooked springs G, the sills D D, and the braces X X, as and for the purposes specified.
