IMPROVEMENT IN SPRING BED-BOTTOMS.
Specification forming part of Let ters Patent No. 126,081, dated April 23, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD PARKER, of Plymouth, in the county of Litchfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Spring Bed-Bottoms; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ofthe construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l ofthe drawing is a representation of a plan view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.
My invention relates to the manufacture of bed-bottoms or springs; and consists in the construction of such bed-bottom with closelycoiled spring-wire woven and interlaced, as hereinafter specified and claimed.
A of the drawing represents the side and foot rails of a bedstead, or it may represent a frame adapted for attachment to a bedstead by any suitable means. B represents springwire, closely coiled, as shown. This wire is cut into strips of appropriate lengths, and each end of such strips is passed into an opening in the frame A and secured in such opening by a pin, c. In order to give rmness and strength to the bottom, I weave the wires B into squares and pass them alternately over and under each other, as shown in Fig. 2. At the respective points of junction between the wires I sometimes place a rider or plate to separate them from each other and prevent too great strain upon the coils. I also sometimes make the central Wires double by arranging one coiled wire within another, and thereby materially add to the strength and durability of such central wires. For ordinary purposes, however, I find that coils of single Wires are quite sufficient.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The coiled wires B, interlaced as shown, and held in position by pins c, to form a bedbottom, substantially as specilied.
