Description

lOA l. 4 Paten-wa Mar.y 26, 1918.
INVENTUM CHARLES E. REED, 0F FARGO, NORTH DAKOTA..
PANTS-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 26, 191%..
Application filed April 12, 1917. Serial No. 161,593.
1n the accompanying drawing Figure 1 isy a top view of my improved pants hanger secured on a wall. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the hanger. Fig. 3 is a left hand end view of the hanger shown in Fig. 2. F ig. 1- is Fig. 2 on a reduced scale with a pair of pants suspended and held in the device.
Referring to the drawing by reference numerals, the main parts of the device consists of two flat metal bars 1 and 2, the bar 1 is provided at its rear side with a pair of brackets 3 with perforated ears 4 for screws 5, by which the brackets may be secured to a wail 13 or other object and will hold the bars and thereby the garment spaced from the wall.
rThe bar 1 'has one end bent forward to form a neck 6 to which thebar 2 is hinged 7 to swingl to and from the bar 1. r1`he bracket near the other end of the bar 1 is provided with rotatable stud 8 having a thumb head 9. Said thumb head is arranged when the bars are brought together to pass through a slot 10 in a fiat arm 11 iiXed on the front bar 2.
The adjacent sides of the bars are lined with felt 12, which prevent slipping of the pants between the clasping bars and in case of moisture prevent tarnishing of the metal bar from reaching the garment.-
In Fig. L1 is shown how a pair of pants 14 are clasped and suspended by the device, the front flaps 15 may be folded inward as indicated in dotted lilies, before the pants are placed in the hanger. 1f the pants are very large they may extend more or less close to the right hand ends of the bars.
In Fig. 2 is shown that if the bars 1, 2 are long enough the front bar may have near its free end a slot 10X and the rear bar a thumb catch 9 arranged to be slipped through the slot and be turned across the front of it. lVith this arrangement the fiat arm 11 and catch 9 may be dispensed with, since 9 and 10X is a substitute therefor.
What I claim is:
l. A pants hanger for suspending pants from the upper end, said hanger comprising a primary bar having brackets adapted to be secured to a wall or like object and to hold the bar spaced from the wall; said primary bar having at one end a short forward projection and at the other end a flat thumb catch, a secondary bar hinged with one end to the forward projection and having in its other end a slotted hole for the thumb catch to pass through and be turned across the slot in front of the secondary bar.
2. A pants hanger comprising a primary bar, a pair of brackets secured to the har and extending upward above and rearwardly from the bar and provided with holes for screws to secure them to a wall, a secondary bar hinged with one end to one end of the primary bar and having near its other end an upward projection with a slotted hole in it, and a flat thumb catch on the adjacent bracket arranged to pass through the slotted hole and be turned across the slot so as to hold the bars closed one toward the other.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
