Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed June 22, 1.915. Serial No. 35.651.
To all fao/ola t may concern.'
Be it known that l, SALLY M. Srnn'onn, a citizen of the `United States, residing' at Flagstaff, in the county of Coconino and State of .-irizonar` have invented new an( useful improvements in Nose-Bags, of which the following is a specification.
Thin invention contemplates the provision of a nose ha which can be comfortably supported hv the animal. and having' an enlarged opening in the body portion thereof for supplying a large opiantity of air to the han' for vei'itilatingl purposes, the opening being' coifered by a flexible. interwoven foraminated fabric whereby the bag' can he collapsed when not in use Without injuring` the mesh of the fabric.
The invention resides in the specific construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fullv described and claimed.
1n the drawing forming part of this application like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein:
Figure 1 is a view of a bag showing the same in use.
Fig'. 2 is a vertical sectional View.
Fig. 3 is a front elevation.
Fig. l is a top plan view of the bag extended.
Referring more particularly to the drawing' 5 indicates the bottom of the bag' which may be constructed from any suitable material. preferably heavy leather, and formed to provide a vertical circumferential liange 6 to which the lower edge of the body portion 7 is secured in any suitable manner. The body portion is constructed from ilexible material, preferably canvas of the proper Weight, and has secured to the sides thereof at diametricallv opposite points a loop adjustingstrap S, the latter being' terminally connected to the circumferential flange 6 of the bottom. By reason of this arrangement the strap serves to reinforce the body portion 7, but is primarily intended for supporting the bag in proper position with re lation to the mouth of the animal. The upper edge of the body portion is provided with a circumferential series of spaced vertically disposed slits 9 through which an adinstable and flexible band 10 is threaded. the intermediate portion of which is disposed within the bag approximately in a line With the longitudinal center thereof7 the band being' adapted to be drawn about the nose of the animal. as well as to contract portion of the upper edge of the laag to assist the strap 8 in supporting the bag in proper position as clearly snoivn in Fig'. l. lilith the band l0 adjusted a ventilating space ll is provided in advance thereof.
The front face of the bag' is provided with a longitudinall5T extending` opening'. gradually increasing in Width toward the bottom thereof. said openingbeing` covered by a flexible interwoven foraminated fabric 12 of suitable mesh, with a view of su'iplying a large quantity of air to the bag for ventilating' purposes, the fabric being' secured to the inner marginal edges of opening' in any suitable manner7 preferably by stitching. Secured to the fabric 12 along' the longitudinal center thereof is a strip of cloth or other suitable material 13 forming' a backing; for the reinforcing strap 14 which latter is secured to the strip and also terminally secured to the bag' above and below the opening. Similarly extending' across the transverse center of the fabric is. a strip 15 forming' a backing` for the reinforcing strap 16 which is secured to the strip and also terminally secured to the ban' at the opposite sides of the opening in the bag. By reason of the fact that the ventilating' element or fabric l2 is formed from flexible material, it will be manifest that the bag); may be collapsed or folded in any desired manner when not in use Without injuring' the fabric in any manner which would vbe the result if foraminated Wire or a perforated sheet of metal was used instead of the fabric 12. 1n addition to this fact the fabric is effectively reinforced by means of the strips 13 and 15 and the straps la and 16 respectively. By constructing the foraminated element 12 from flexible material, a relatively large Ventilatingl opening may be provided in the bag, and at the same time permit the bag' to be collapsed Without injury to the member as hereinabove stated, the relatively large opening together with the space 11 in the upper edge of the bag permitting' a large quantity of air to be supplied to the bag', thereby allowing' the animal to breath more easily than under ordinary conditions and feed in comfort.
lt is believed that from the foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be thoroughly understood tie without requiring a more extended explanatien and therefore the same has been omitted.
l/Vhat is claimed is l. In a device of the class described, a bag having a collapsible body provided With a tapered opening in the front thereof and a flexible reticulated covering therefor', crossed flexible stays having connection With said covering and terminally connected With said body, and means for retaining said bag in applied position including an adjustable band threaded through the rear portion of said body to provide a nose engaging loop therein above said opening.
2. ln a device of the class described, a bag having a flexible and collapsible body provided With a longitudinally extending opening in the front thereof gradually inneeopez creasing in Width toward its lower end, flexible stays connected with the body to cross said opening both longitudinally and transversely, a flexible reticulated closure for said opening having connection With said body and stays, a exible attaching member having a portion thereof threaded through the rear portion of said body to alternately lie interiorly and exterior-ly thereof and forming a nose engaging loop within said body above said opening, and
means adjustably connecting the ends of the attaching member.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of tWo Witnesses.
