VINCENZO SQUEGLIA, or NEW HAVEN, commcrrcur.
NIGHT-LIGHT.
To all whom it may conce n:
Beit known that I, VINCENZO S UEGLIA, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at New. Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Night- .Lights; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which saiddrawings'constitute part of this application, and represent, in
Figurel a side View partly in section, of .a night light constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 a top or plan view of the same with the candle removed.
This invention relates to an improvement in nght lights which commonly comprise a cup or holder and a candle to be set into the cup. A common form of these'candles comprises a body of parafiin, wax or other suitable material formed with a centrally arranged longitudinal passage through which the wick is passed, the lower end of the wick being connected to a disk of metal formed with prongs to be inserted into the lower end of the candle. To form these metal disks and connect the WlCkS WllZh them, involves time and expense, as well as material for the disks.
The object of this invention is to provide a wick of sufiicient length to be used with several candles, and a holder for the wick; and the invention consists in the construction hereinafter described and recited in the claims.
In carrying out my invention I employ a candle body 3 formed from paraffin, wax or other suitable material. This candle is adapted to be set into a cup or socket 4 such as usually employed for night lights. The
candle body is formed with a central longitudinal passage 5 for the passage through it of a wick 6. This wick is formed from a Copies of this patent may be obtained for Specification of Letters Patent.

long strip of cord or other suitable material which is preferably wound in a fiat coil to rest in the bottom of the cup, one end of the wvick passing upward through an eye 7 Patented Mar; 19, 1918.
formed in one end of a wick-holder 8, this wick-holder having a flat portion 9 which rests upon the coil and holds it in place, and the outer end extends upward over the top of the cup and downwardupon the outside forming a clip to hold the wick-holder in place, and provides a handle by which the candle may be lifted out of the candleholder when desired. The end of the wick is passed upward above the upper end of the candle to provide for lighting in the usual way; and when the candle'is consumed the end of the wick is drawn upward and another candle placedover it. Thus a single piece of .wicking may be used with several candles. lViththis construction I avoid the necessity of attaching the separate wicks to wick-holders and connecting those Wick holders with the individual candles.
Iclaim 1. A night light comprising a candle formed with a longitudinal opening, combined with a wick longer than the lengthof the candle, the said wick coiled below the candle, and a wick-holder below the candle and through which the wick extends.
2. A night light comprising a candleholder, a candle formed with a longitudinal passage and adaptedto set into the holder, a wick coiled in the bottom of the holder and one end adapted to be passed upward through the candle, and a wick-holder providedwith an eye through which the wick extends, said holder and down upon the outside thereof. In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. 7 r
