specification of Letters raten-t.Y Paten-ted Mar.' 19, 1918;
Application led November 10, 1916.. SeriaLNo. 130,519.
To all whom t mag/concemf Be it known that we, FRANK MoNnooz and EMILIO Sroocni, both .subjectslof .the King of Italy, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Nlicliigaii, have invented l. certain new and.: useful 'lm-provee.
ments in Burglar-Alarms, of which the fl..
lowin is a specification, reference being had t erein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a burglar alarm and to an arrangement thereof whereby the same may be readily applied in any desired position and whereby when once so set it is effective in operation.
The invention consists in the matters hereinafter set forth, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
The drawing is a plan view of the device applied to a door, the casing and door being shown in section.
Referring to the drawing, a base plate 1 is secured as by a thumb screw 2 passing therethrough and into a holding plate or socketl in the floor or the like, against the casing 3 of a door 4 adjacent the path of l, motion of the outer margin of the latter.
A cartridge holder 5 is secured on or formed in the barrel of proper gage to retain a blank cartridge 6 or the like, a holding block 7 being pivoted on a stud 8 that engages a lug 9, in such manner as to snap down over the head of the cartridge, the outer end portion 10 thereof being hooked around a corresponding lug 11 of the holder. A hammer pin hole 13 is formed in the member 7 in proper relation to the cartridge so as to permit ringof the latter by concussion.
A hammer lever 14 with firing pin 15 is swiveled on the pivot 16 so as to swing against the member 7 and permit the firing pin to pass through the opening 13 and eX- plode the cartridge when the arm is swung around under the influence of a spring 17 that preferably is coiled around the holding stud 16 or may be secured in other convenient positions.
A detent lock 18 on the member 14 is adapted to be engaged by the curved detent arm 19 of a lever or trigger 20, which is pivoted on a stud 21 and has an extending portion or wiper arm 23 adapted to be struck by the door 4 as the latter is being v opened. A spring finger 25 or the like yieldingly returns the. trigger armv to .position against l a .stop 26. a
provide against. accidental. discharge ofthe .cartridge when` the device is detached,
from a supportand not in use,` a guardarm 27 that may. conveniently becpivotedon the pin holding the spring nger25, is arranged to be swung around against the trigger 20 and prevent any movement thereof.
As a result of this construction when the parts are in tiring position, as indicated, an outer movement of the door 4 releases the hammer arm 14 and the latter snaps down and discharges the cartridge. The device is easily reset, does not take up great space, is not liable to displacement or disarrangement and is effective for the purpose desired.
Obviously, changes in the details of construction may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention and I do not care to limit myself to any particular form or arrangement of parts.
1. A burglar alarm comprising a base plate, a thumb closure passing therethrough, for detachably securing the base plate in operative relation to a door or openingl closure, a longitudinally apertured boss on the base plate, a laterally extending lug at the end of theboss, acartridge holding member pivoted to the lug to swing across and close the adjacent end of the boss bore and the lug and boss providing a wide bearing for the holder, a hammer arm having a firing pin adapted to swing through a hammer pin opening of the holding member registering with the dial opening of the boss, a pivot securing the arm to the base, a spring for throwing the hammer against the holding member, a releasing lever pivoted to the base and normally engaged with the firing arm to hold the latter retracted, and a spring for returning the releasing lever to initial position, the outer portion of the releasing member forming a wiper adapt ed to be placed in the path of a door or open* ing closure.
2. A burglar alarm comprising a base plate, a thumb screw passing therethrough for detachably securing the base plate in operative relation to a door or other opening closure, a longitudinally apertured boss on the base, a laterally extending lug at one end of the boss, a cartridge holding member pivoted to the lug and adapted to swing across the adjacent end of the boss for closing the bore of the latter, the cartridge holder having a hammer pinopening in axial alinement with the bore of the boss,
a pivot stud on the plate, a hammer arm mounted on the stud, a firing pin on the hammer arm adapted to enter the hammer pin opening of the holding member when the hammer arm is swung, a spring secured to the stud and bearing against the hammer arm for throwing the latter against the cartridge holding member, the hammer arm having a detent lock, a trigger mounted on Genies of this patent may be obtained for the base having a curved detent arm adapted to interlock With the detent lock when the hammer arm is retracted, a spring yieldingly holding the detent lock in initial position, and a striker' extension or Wiper arm on the lever adapted to lie in the path of the closure for which the alarm is adjusted.
