To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM Dnnnnn'r WATKINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Honey Bend, in the county of The primary object of the present inven tion is to provide a pad lock of this character with a keyless locking means which can only be opened by a certain combination thereby preventing unauthorized persons from tampering with. the same.
A further object of the present invention is to novelly construct a device of this char-I acter which will be inexpensive in the cost of manufacture, strong durable and efiicient in use, and one which the various parts thereof are not liable to become broken.
Other objects will appear hereinafter as the description continues.
With the above and other objects in view this invention consists in the novel construction, combination, formation and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, claimed, and particularly pointed out in the appended drawings in which,

Referring now to the drawings wherein I have shown a specific embodiment of the present invention, the numeral 10 indicates a housing or casing of the ordinary padlock which consists of a rear wall 11, side walls 11' and a front wall 12 the latter of which being detachably secured to the side walls by screws or any other suitable means. Pivotally mounted as at 13 in one end of the housing is a shackle 14, a leaf spring 15 rests against the said shackle for normally holding the same in an open position when the opposite end of the shackle is released from the locking means. This end of the shackle being inserted in an opening formed in the housing in the usual well known manner.
Extending parallel within the lower portion of the casing is a pair of pins 16 each having loosely mounted thereon a pawl 17 said pawls being oppositely disposed and each provided at its outer extremity with an enlarged head portion 18 which is adapted to engage with notches formed in one extremity of the shackle 14; The heads of these pawls are considerably wider than the width of the body thereof. Loosely mounted upon the pins 16 are arms 19 which extend parallel and adjacent to said pawls and the ends thereof terminating below the heads of the said pawls. Rotatably mounted within the housing as at 20 are a pair of parallel extending shafts 21 each having a cam disk 22 mounted thereon and a smaller disk 23. The outer extremity of each of these shafts extends beyond the outer wall of the casing and are each provided with a threaded portion to receive a milled knob 24 whereby the same may be easily rotated. Formed on each of these shafts adjacent the threaded portion thereof is a hexagonal portion 25 on which is mounted a circular plate 26, the latter having graduations marked on the outer face thereof to register with graduations 27 formed upon the outer plate 12 of the housing.
The rear wall 11 of the casing has secured thereto, as at 29, a pair of leaf springs 28. The opposite or free ends of these leaf springs are adapted to rest against the pawls and the said arms for normally holding the same in an inward position, thereby causing the heads of the pawls to normally engage the shackle when the same is in a closed position. These leaf springs 28 are each provided with a depending portion which partly encircles the smaller disk 23 formed upon each of the shafts 21, thereby forming a frictional engagement with the same which will prevent the shafts from rotating too freely. The free ends of these leaf springs extend upwardly and rest against the outer faces of the pawls 17 and their extremities are provided with angular portions 28 which are adapted to rest upon the outer faces of the arms adjacent the upper extremities thereof. It is apparent from the foregoing description that these leaf springs normally hold the arms and locking pawls in an inward position and as one of the cam disks 22 lies closely adjacent each of the arms, the said pawls will be prevented from being spread apart until the flattened portion formed upon said cam disk lies parallel with the arms, as will be hereinafi er more fully described. What I claim is 1. A padlock consisting of a housing, a shackle pivot-ally secured thereto, spring pressed pawls mounted in said housing and adapted to engage said shackle, arms pivotally mounted in said housing and lying parallel with said pawls, a cam wheel mounted in said housing and interposed between said arms and said pawls, cam disks mounted in said housing and lying adjacent said arms and means for rotating said cam wheel iubistantially as and for the purpose speci- 2.
