MT/YEEEEE J /\/E/ TUE UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT A. GALLY, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE BALDWIN COMPANY, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
MUSIC-PLAYER ACTION.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 12, 1918.
Application filed August 6, 1917. Serial No. 184,677.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT A. GALLY, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and tate of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Music-Player Actions, of which the following is a specification.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side view of a piano with the present invention therein, the side of the case having been removed to show the interior parts; and Fig. 2 is a plan view of a portion of the player action showing the two forward rows of striker pneumatics and the chests thereto.
In the application of H. E. Tower, #184,338, filed Aug. 3,1917, is shown an improved disposition of the striker pneumatics and their chests underneath the key bed of a grand piano, by which arrangement he gained a simplicity of structure and easy access to all parts, and a condensed space set well back from the front of the keybed, but his use of two front rows of pneumatics with their chests directly above each other requires more vertical space than is easily hidden by a suitable size of case work, so in the present improvement is shown a special disposition of the two front chests 1, 2, one forward of the other, and thus possible for the lower chest 1 to be raised and a thin grooved board 3 placed below it and conduct the air through ducts 4: in said grooved board from the valves 5 of the chest 1 to the corresponding striker pneumatics 6 positioned in a row on the upper face of the said grooved board 3, as shown in the drawing herewith, wherein the said parts are displayed below the keys 7 and keybed 8, which keybed 8 is a part of the main case 9. The chest 2 has its pneumatics 10 positioned in a row on the upper face of the said chest.
What I claim as my invention is 1. Two valve chests and two rows of striker pneumatics therewith, one said row of striker pneumatics attached to the upper side of one of the said two chests which is higher than the other said chest, a grooved board attached to the lower side of the other and lower one of the two said chests, and the other said row of pneumatics attached to the ,upper face of the said grooved board to the rear of the said chest attached to the said grooved board, and air conducting grooves in the said grooved board connecting each valve of said chest attached to said board to the corresponding pneumatic attached to the said board.
2. Two valve chests and two rows of striker pneumatics therewith, one said row of striker pneumatics attached to the upper side of one of the said two chests which is higher than the other said chest, a grooved board attached to the lower side of the other and lower one of two said chests, and the other said row of pneumatics attached to the upper face of the said grooved board to the rear of the said chest attached to the said grooved board, and air conducting grooves in the said grooved board connecting each valve of said chest attached to said board to the corresponding pneumatic attached to the said board; the chest attached to the said grooved board being immediately in front of the pneumatics attached to the said grooved board.
3. Two valve chests and two rows of striker pneumatics therewith, one said row of striker pneumatics attached to the upper side of one of the said two chests which is higher than the other said chest, a grooved board attached to the lower side of the other and lower one of the two said chests, and the other said row of pneumatics attached to the upper face of the said grooved board to the rear of the said chest attached to the said grooved board, and air conducting grooves in the said grooved board connecting each valve of said chest attached to said board to the corresponding pneumatic attached to the said board; the higher one of said chests being directly above the lower row of the two said rows of striker pneumatics.
4. Two valve chests and two rows of striker pneumatics therewith, one said row of striker pneumatics attached to the upper side of one of the said two chests which is higher than the other said chest, a grooved board attached to the lower side of the other and lower one of two said chests, and the other said row of pneumatics attached to the upper face of the grooved board to the rear of the said chest attached to the said grooved board, and air conducting grooves in the said grooved board connecting each Valve of directly above the lower row of the two said said chest attached to said board to the corrows of striker neumatics. responding pneumatic attached to the said board; the chest attached to the said grooved ROBT' GALIA board being immediately in front of the Witnesses:
neumatics attached to the said grooved PAUL J. HENGGE,
board; the higher one of said chests being NORMA KEIsER.
