TAG non KEYs AND OTHER ARTICLES.
Application filed March 28, 1914.
To all whom may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM D. IIART- Man, a citizen of the United States, residing at F ort North, in the county of Tar-rant and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tags for Keys and other Articles. of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to tags and particularly tags for keys for hotels and other places, and the object is to provide tags to the following description and the invention will be more particularly POllltQClOllt in the claims.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application. Figure l is a front view of a tag and Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same. Fig. 8 is an edge view of the same. Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section of the lockingdevices on an enlarged scale. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the key holder. Fig. 6 is a plan view of a releasing key. Fig. 7 is a lan view of the lock. Fig. 8 is a side elevation of the device adapted to be attached to the trousers. Fi 9 is an edge view of the same.
Similar characters of reference are used to indicate the same parts throughout the several views.
The key tag may be made of a piece of leather or other suitable material bent to fold together and having one part 1 and the part 2 folded together as shown in Figs. 1 to 3. A card 3 may be carried within the fold for the room number and rates for the hotel and a card 4 may be carried for advertising purposes. The cards 3 and 4: may be protected by sheets of isinglass or other transparent sheets, isinglass being preferable because it is flexible. A lock 5 is perinanently attached to one of the parts 1 or 2 by means of the perforated arms 6. The lock has the edges 7 turned to form a keeper for Specification of Letters Patent.
Serial No. 827,939.
the key holder 8 which is adapted to'slide down in the lock. The lock 5 has a tongue 9 struck therefrom which locks the key holder 8 within the tag. The tongue 9 is Patente Mar. is, rare.
sprung out of the plane of the body. The
holder 8 has a tongue 10 sprung out of the plane thereof. The tongue 9 is adapted; to
pass through-the slot which is made in the holder by cutting the tongue lO therefrom.
The holder is formed by bending a reduced 1 portion 11 to form a loop for the key. The inner end of part 11 serves to press the tongue 9 through the slot in the part 8 to unlock the holder from the lock 5. When holder 8 is shoved down in the part 5, the tongue 9 will spring up through the slot in part 8 and when the holder is drawn back the tongue'9 will ride up on the part 8 and thus lock the holder in the lock. As a further precaution against removal of the holder a notch 12 is formed in the bottom of the lock 5 and a tongue 13 is struck from the holder 8 and adapted to enter the notch 12. The holder 8 cannot be inserted in the lock without a key-because the tongue13 will catch in thenotch 12. By means of a key 15 which may be inserted between the holder 8 and the part 14 of the lock, the tongue 13 may be pressed out of the notch in the lock until the tongue 9 springs through the slot in the holder 8'. The holder is' then drawn back toward entering point. The tongue 13 will spring down in the notch 12 and thus lock the holder in the lock and the holder cannot be removed without the key 15. When the holder is to be removed for putting on a key or for other purpose, the key 15 is insertedto press the tongue 13 out of notch 12. The holder is then shoved down in the lock until the tongue 9 will leave the part 8 and rest over the slot in part 8. Then pressure on the inner end of the part 11 above the tongue 10 will force the tongue 9 far enough down so that the part 8 can be withdrawn. Thus a key cannot be locked in the tag without a special tag key or release key 15.
The form of the device shown in Fig. 8 and Fig. 9 is provided with a clasp 16 which is adapted to hang on the trousers waistband. Tongues 17 may be struck from the hook 16 to prevent removal of the hook from the trousers.
The advertising cards 4 may be carried '85 12 so that the holder 8 may be inserted in the'lock'd' The holder is then shoved down" in the tags and the tag may be provided with a button 18 attached to one fold and a button hole 19 in the other fold so that the advertising cards may be inserted and removed. The key holder 8 may be long enough to catch the cards, as shown in Fig. 41. A hook 20 may be formed on the end of the holder 8 to catch the cards. The cards have slots 21 cut therein so that the hook 20 will engage the cards. The cards will be locked in place and cannot be removed without a key. The hook will engage the card when shoved down as previously described, and when the holder 8 is drawn back to looking position, it will draw the card up under the covers 1 and 2 so that a person cannot release the cards until the holder is unlocked and shoved down to be released as heretofore described.
What I claim, is,
1. A key tag and means for locking a key thereto comprising a holder having a loop for engaging a key, said tag having a recess for receiving the holder, a lock embedded in the tag and having a tongue struck therefrom and having a recess therein, and said holder having a lug engaging said recess and having a tongue struck therefrom to form an opening to receive the tongue formed on said lock, the tongue of said holder serving as a releasing means for removing the holder from the lock.
2. A key tag and advertising device comprising a body, cards inserted in said body,
said body having windows forexposing said cards, a lock embedded in said body, and a key holder consisting of a bent strip of metal with the ends thereof inserted in said lock, and said lock and said holder having interlocking members by which the holder and Games of this patent may be obtained for 4. A ke ta and advertisin device comprising a body, cards inserted in said body, 1 a lock embedded in and attached to said body, a key holder consisting of a piece of metal folded and forming an eye fora key and having the other end inserted in said lock and having one, arm of the fold extended to form a hook to engage said cards, means for locking said holder and lock together, and a key for releasing the holder from the lock.
5. A key tag and advertising device comprising a body, cards inserted in said body, a lock inserted in and attached to said body, a key holder having an eye at one end to re ceive a key and having the other end projected through said lock and having a hook formed thereon to engage said cards, said holder and said lock having interlocking members whereby the holder and thelock are locked together and the key is locked in said eye and the cards are locked in said body.
In testimony whereof, I set my hand in the presence of two witnesses, this 16th day of March, 1914. Y
WILLIAM D. HARTMAN. Witnesses:
