Be it known that l', HERBERT 1t. KEITHLEY, a citizen of the UnitedStates, and resident of Michigan City, county of La Porte, and State or indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Draft-Arms for Railway-Cars, of which the following' is a speciiication, and which are illustrated lin the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof,
The invention relates to draft arms adapted to reinforce and strengthen the sills ot a car and `to carry the draft and bung lugs with which the coupler mechanism coperates. More specically, it relates to draft arms formed of pressed steel and having a over and extending beyond the car bolster.
The objects ci the invention are to secure, in a device of this character, increased strength and adaptability to draft gears varying in length,
The invention consists of a structure such as is-hereinafter described, and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a detail longitudinal section of the underraining of a car, the draft arrn being shown in elevation;

The buiiing lug 23 may,^as shown, overlap the lug 21, in which case securing rivets', as 24, 25,`may be common to both. Should it be desired to space the draft and buing lugs a greater or less distance than as indicated in the drawings, the buiing lug may be set entirely forward of the lug 21, in which case there would be no rivets common to both; or itV may be set farther back, in which case more than a single set of rivets would be common to the two lugs.

5. ln a draft arm for railway cars, in combination, a pressed steel plate having a portion adapted to bear against the inner 'face of a car sill and to extend from the end sill thereof over and beyond thel car bolster and a portion extending downward and Lesage/i adapted to abut against the car bolster, a lug secured to the depending portion of the arm and adapted t0 bear against the front face of the bolster, a buffing lug attached to the inner face of the draft arm, and rivets securing both of the named lugs to the arm.
6. In a draft arm for railway cars, in combination, a plate having a portion adapted to bear against the inner face of a car sill and to extend from the end sill thereof over and beyond the car bolster and a portion extending downward and adapted to abut against the car bolster, said portion having a flange adjacent its lower edge and a second flange connected with the plate and extending beneath and bearing against said sill, and a lug secured to the depending portion of said plate and adapted to bear against the front face of the bolster and having top and bottom flanges secured to said vflanges on the plate `and an end flange en aging said bolster.
l. In a draft arm for railway cars, in combination, a plate having a vertical web adapted to bear against the inner face of a car center sill, an instanding flange at the upper edge of said web, lan outstanding flange at the lower edge of said web spaced from said sill, a member connected with the vertical web and seated against the lower surface of said sill, the part of said plate extending below the center sill being adapted to abut against the car bolster, the part of said plate in engagement with the inner face of said sill extending over said bolster and increasing in height adjacent said bolster, and draft and buiing lugs arrange on said web.
