To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR Jimmie WHIT- rmnmaz citizen of the United States, and resident of Boston, in the county of Sufi'olk 6 and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in renches, of which the follow ng description, in connection with thelaccom anying drawings, is a specification,-like etters on the drawings represent ringlike parts.

In the thicker portion of these lugs 14 anil 11o 15 I provide a recess as indicated at 23, Fig. 3, which recess is preferably circular in form and of sullicient diameter and size to receive a round steel disk 24, which extends u wardly a sufficient extent to overlap the wings 12 and 13 as indicated at 25, Fig. 1, this disk being preferably welded directly onto the lugs and the recess provided therefor.
As thus constructed, my improved wrench provides an economical construction which prevents'the'steel frame 10 frombreaking down the lugs during use, which provides a guide for same frames, and a reinforcing and strengthening for the lugs and yet permits full reedom of movement of the frame and jaw member of the wrench. The welding construction, furthermore, using strong steel disks as guides, and also strengthening the lugs to which said disks are welded, is an advantage of my present invention. Conseigiently my improved wrench obviates the di culties and weakness formerly experienced and prevents the steel frame 10 from crushing 'or wearing the In portion, which latter may be and usually are of softer metal, for economy, and guides and strengthens the wings of the frame, effectuallypreventing them from s'pringin apart, while stil permitting freedom 0 movement, in all directions and beating of the jaw member on the work. Furthermore, the process above described of recessing the lug members14 and 15, which are forged integrally with the handle 1, with the recesses 23 therein, and then appl ing the metal disks 24, referably o'fsteel, in recesses and we ding the same, enables a steel' strengthening and bearing member to be readily, easily, quickly and economically applied by a simple electrical welding, thus ,reinforcin both the lugs and the steel wings of t ejframe by a steel bearing mem- --ber, which will be mosteflicient in service.
