The essential portion. of myy invention resides in the` provision of the dome cap 15 and rolled beams 16, and While my invention is not in every Way limited to the beam 16 being of`I-shape in cross-section, I prefer the use of I-beams and my dome cap 15 has been constructed accordingly.
The dome cap 15 is preferably in one integral casting, audits essential. portion will always bein one integral casting, it being my purpose to secure great strength with feivness of structural parts. The dome'capy 15 may have an ornamental raised upper end, as shown, and said cap extends later# ally, and Within its lateral portions are formed sockets 23 for the yupper ends of the beams 1G and the recesses 24 at the sides of said sockets, there being as many sockets and recesses as may be required, and eachV socket vbeing between two of the recesses. The sockets 23 and recesses 2a extend inwardly to the central or hub portion of the cap 15, and While being of adequate depth leave a substantial body of the dome or cap Within the circle of their inner ends. The sockets 23, in theconstruction shown, are of I-shape corresponding with the I-shape of the beams 16, and the beams 16 have their upper `ends bowed toward each other and are entered Within said sockets, the external surfaces fof the ends of said beams engaging the internal surfaces of said sockets. The upper flanges 25 at the upper ends of the beams 16 engage the upper surface 26 of the sockets 23, and the edges of said flanges 25 engage the vertical surfaces 27 of the sockets 23, and the loiver surfaces of said flanges 25 have a bearing upon the socket surfaces 28. I prefer to make the cap in one piece and will do so, except in case of excessive weight making it more convenient, in manufacture, to casty the cap and its superposed ornamental part in tivo pieces.
