J. LALLY STEEL CAP FOR COLUMNS Filed June 12, 194
ATTORNEY Patented July 28, 1925.
UNITED 4STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN LALLY, F GREAT NECK, NEW YORK.
STEEL CAP FOR COLUMNS.
Application filed June 12, 1924. Seri-a1 No. 719,571.
y To aZZ whom 'i1/v may concern:
'Be it known that I, JOHN IJALLY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Great Neck, in the county of Nassau and State of New York, have invented certain new. and useful Improvements in Steel Caps f or Columns, of
which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to steel lcaps for building4 columns and it is my object to produce an all steel cap of light weight to rei place the heavier, more expensive cast iron caps now in use and, at the same time, to increase the strength, reliability and load carrying capacity of the cap.
In the drawing Fig. 1 is a bottom view of my' steel capi and Fig. 2 a side elevation thereof, in section, on a column.
To produce my improved capv a cap plate 1 is cut from a rolled steel plate and may be of any suitable size or shape. Bolt holes 2 are punched or drilled therein to receive the beam bolts.
A steel ring 3 is cut from a length of steel y pipe or tubing and is welded to the cap plate V,welded together.
as indicated in the drawing, thus producing f4 with the ring telescoping on the body and 85 the top plate resting on the column end just as the old-style cast-iron cap was and the floor beams are laid on the cap plate an bolted in place. `I c1aim:'-.
An all-steel cap for buildin columns comprising a top plate adapte to rest on a column end and a ring adapted to telescope on a column body, the plate and ring being s In testimony whereof I have aliixed my signature.
JOI-IN LALLY.
