T is nve tion rel et mechani m-1 for A power and is designed particularly for transmitting the power of an internal combustion engine to one or more Pump a One of the main objects of the invent ons to Pr e mee a m f r t ansmitti g power, hi h. m a ism may be q ick y and easily associated with an internal combus n g e Wi hout requir g any n1o ifica on of th e g ne he ame t e Oh mi i g a s rong, du a l -and e ie ent for the purpose stated. a i
With the above and other hj eetsi-f view, he in nti consi ts n he n v lconstr e tion, c m ina ion and rrang men of p rts, e e n desc i ed, illustrated and cla med.-
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation parabrok s away showing the motion. transmitting mechanism in its-applied relation to an: in-i t ernal combustion engine and a plurality of D ml 1 Fig; 2. is a fragmentary plan View of thesame on an enlarged scale.-
T ig. 3 of a pare niemi- Fig.4 is a side elevation of onev of the gears with the adjacentcrank pin member detached; I e V The mechanism for transmitting power comprises in the. preferred embodiment thereof a gear frame of sectional formation comprising the sections 1 and 2. The section 1 is arranged to abut directlyagainst one of the end walls of the base or frame 3 013 he po er transmi ing mec ia of an internal combustion engine as shown" in Fig. '1, said section 1 beingformed with attaching ears 4 receiv ng fasten ng means 5 by which said section is fixedly secured to the engine. The section 2 is'of triangular formation in plan view and 1s formed with reinforcing webs or flangesG and 'i'. The member 1 isprovided with sl e e-l ke bear'-- Specification of Letterslratent.
is a fragmentary perspective view ingse for a coun-tershaft 9 wh-ichis arranged parallel to the engine shaft 10, 11 designating a fly wheelon the engine shaft The earing sleeves 8 are arranged in spaced relation t-o each other so as to admit bet-ween them another bearing sleeve 12 on the section 2. The countershaft 9 passes through all of the bearing sleeves 8 and 12 and carries at one end a large gear 13 which meshes with a gear 14 on the engine shaft 10. On the opposite end of the countershaft 9 there is a smaller gear 15 which meshes with a relatively large gear 16 on a pump operating shaft 17 which is journa'led in a bearing s e ve .18 on he prm ting end f th sec-i tion 2 of the gear frame. a The section f the frameis additionally supported by means of an upright 19 having a base flange 20 which rests upon a supporti-ng stand 21 and is securedthereto by fast elling means 2. .9 T e supporting'stand- 21 al o forms av support for the ngine as shown in Fig, ena ling th engine o he lQcated at ai'sufiicicntly high elevation to handle the pump or e edt t itsfupper en e p ig support 19 issecured fixedly to the section 2 ofthe gear fr m y fa e ing. m ns 23,
Fixedly secured to the outer face of the gear 16 is a crank .pin plate or member 24: of oblong formation, the shape thereof be-- members 2 7. Extending from the bearing members 27 and'fixedly secured thereto are connecting rods 28; the opposite ends of which are inserted through openings 29 in the oppositeends of head 30. The rods 28 are held in any ad j usted position in the openings 29 by set screws 31.

pum'pshercinafter reean oscillatory cross Centrally the cross head 30 is nected a bail shaped member 36 of the pump, the body of the pump being ndicated at 37.
As illustrated in Figs. 1 and 3, the mechanism is adapted for the'simultaneous opspokes ll of said gear are made wider than theother spokes and are formed with holes 43' to receive the to receive fasteners 42 such as bolts or rivetsas indicated in'Figs. 1 and 4. V c
The yoke 38 is formed with series of holes pivot bolts 44 whichconnect the levers 33 with said yoke. Ihis enablesthe varying distances between the levers 33 to be compensated for; One of the levers 33 is'also formed with a longitudinal series of holes is to admit of the adjustment ingthe stroke of the levers 33 and of the cross head 30 for the purpose of varyconsequently the strokes of the pumps. The lower extremities of the levers 33 which are receivedin the sockets 34 are formed with holes or sockets .46 to receive screws or bolts 47 or the like inserted through thesockets 34 to prevent escape of the levers 33 therefrom.
The mechanism hereinabove described is particularly designed for marme pumping ur oses enablin 'an internal combustion engine to be easily coupled with one or more pumps. The mechanism may be used in con junction with an internalcombustion engine.
of'any type or size and inconnectio'n with pumps of various kinds, the ord nary mar ne bilge pump being shown for the purpose ofillustration and inorder to enable the invention to be better understood.
