PIE-CONTAINER.
Specication of Lettera Patent.
Patented Feb. 19, 1918.
Application led May 1, 1917. Serial No. 165,788.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Roemer W. WHITE, a citizenof the United States, residing at Eastondale, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pie- Containers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to a pie container.
The object of the present invention is to provide a simple, practical and enicient pie container of strong, durable and inexpensive construction, designed for the use of persons who are compelled to carry lunch, and adapted for enabling them to convenlently carry, in the pocket or in a lunch basket or other package, pie such as custard, cream pie and the like without spilling the same or materially spoiling the appearance thereof.
A further object of the invention is to provide a pie container of this characterV equipped with means for holding a fork exteriorly of the container Without interfering with the placing of the containerin the pocket and Without liability of the tmes or prongs of the fork sticking the person carrying the device. With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the claims hereto appended; it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction, within the scope of the claims, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
` In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a pie container constructed in accordance with this lnvention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of the pie container.
Fig. i is a detail sectional vieiv illustrating the arrangement of the resilient clip.
Like numerals of reference designatecorresponding parts in the several figures of the drawing.
In the accompanvingdrawing in which is illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention, the pie container comprises in its construction a sector shaped body or box 1 and a correspondingly shaped cover 2 fitted on the body or box ,1 and preferably frictionally engaging the same by means of interlocking protuberances 3 and depressions,
4 as clearly illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawing. rThe body or box 1 and the 4cover 2 may be each stamped or otherwise formed of a single piece of sheet metal or other suitable material, but a plurality of pieces may, of course, be employed in the construction of Will be readily understood. The protuberances 3 are formed by indenting the opposite Walls of the box or body 1 from the interior thereof and the side flanges 5` of the cover are correspondingly indented to provide the depressions to receive and interlock with the protuberances. The side Walls converge and form an apex at one end of the container, and the opposite end of the container is preterably provided With a curved Wall 6. By this construction the container conforms to the configuration of a piece of pie cut in the ordinary Way, and it may be made of ditl'erent sizes and it is adapted for carrying custard pie, cream pie, and various other kinds of pie with or Without a top crust and it will maintain such pie in a nice condition and will enable such pie to be readily packed in a lunch box, kitl or similar package or carried in the pocket.
r1`he pie container is equipped with a fork 7 lremovably mounted upon and extending longitudinally of the cover 2 with its prongs or tines tted against the same so that there is no liability of the prongs or points of the fork sticking the person carrying the pie container or interfering with the placing of the pie container in the pocket. The fork is maintained on the cover by means of a Jfixed loopor yoke 8 and a resilient clip 9. The ixed loop or yoke, which forms a keeper for the points or tines of the fork, is composed of spaced ends and an inclined .or angularly disposed connecting portion 10 presenting an inner inclined face to the tines ofthe fork and conforming to the position of the same when the fork is placed upon the cover, as shown. The clip 9, which is disposed transversely of the handle. is secured at one end at 12 to the upper face of the cover and it extends across the handle which is first removed from the clip 9 in detaching the fork. When the handle is either the body of the box or the cover, as Y sav withdrawn from the resilient clip by a lateral movement of the fork the points or rongs may be readily wit rawn from the oop or keeper. The end of the handle and the points of the fork rest upon the cover as shown, and the said cover is Sreferably provided with a stop 13 exten from the cover and receiving the end of the handle and forming an abutment for the same to prevent longitudinal movement of the fork, so that there is no liability of the same becoming jan-ed out of the loop or'keeper.
What is claimed is:
1. A pie container including av box or body, a cover, and means for securing a fork to the container, said means comprising a fixed loop or oke having a top portion in clined in a direction longitudinally of the fork and arranged to t the tines oi a fork when the points of the said tines are placed ing upwardly `xed loop or for in the loop and the clix against the container, and a. resilient transversely disposed clip arranged to engage thehandle of the fork.
2. A pie container including a box or body, a-cover, means for securing a fork to the container, said means com rising a oke having an inc ined op portion and a apted to receive and it the tines of a fork, a resilient transversely disposed cli arranged to engage the handle of the for i, and a lug or pro'ection forming a stop for engagin the en ofthe handle to revent longltu inal movement of the In testimony whereof I a my signature in presence of two Witnesses.` f
