UNITED STATES PATENT QEEIGE.
ROBERT B. MGCOBMIGK, OF BLOOMINGTON, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHURNS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 125,60-1, dated April 9, 1.872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT B. MCCORMICK, of Bloomington, in the county of McLean and in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and usef'ul Improvements in Uhurns 5 and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing andto the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specication.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a rocking churn, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its con struction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a longitudinal vertical section of my churn, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the dasher. Fig. 3 represents a bottom view of one of the dashers.
A represents the box or tub of my churn, made of any suitable shape and dimensions, and supported upon rockers B B. These rockers may be made solid or otherwise, and of any form or shape desired. Inside of the box A are placed two dashers, G G, constructed as shown in Fig. 2, with a solid piece on top from which extend a series of triangular or V- shaped bars, with suitable spaces or openings between them. These dashers are inserted in grooves in the sides of the box and extending across the same, so that the sharp edges c of the dashers will be nearest the ends of the box, and in rocking the box'the cream is cut bydashers and forced through the slots .r from one part of the box to the other.
This churn may be provided with arms of any description desired to facilitate the work of rocking, and it may be rocked by machinery or any other desired motive power.
D is the cover for the churn, which may be fastened in any desired manner.
This churn makes butter in a short time which will form and collect in each and outside of the two dashers.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The -dashers-G, composed of a series of prismatic strips, c, the sharp edges thereof facing one way and the flat portions facing the other way, forming a straight surface, leaving the slots xx between them, and combined with the rocking box, all substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 8th day of January, 1872.
