Description
1. BINGEN & w. A. BEAVER. cow TAIL HOLDER-A. APPLICATION FILED JULY 13. mm
JOHN BINGEN AND WILLIAM A. BEAVER, OF MARSHFIELD, WISCONSIN.
COW-TAIL HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent. 7 Patented Feb, 5, 191%,
Application filed July 13, 1917. Serial No. 180,355.
70 all whom it may concern."
Be it known that we, Jornv BINGEN and WILLIAM A. BEAVER, citizens of the United States, residing at Marshfield, in the county of 00d and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cow-Tail Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to theaccompanying drawing.
This invention relates to an improved de vice for holding a eows tail while the cow is being milked.
The object of the invention is to provide a device, of this character, constructed from a single piece of sheet spring material, having a tail engaging loop and a leg engaging portion comprising elongated rolls.
A further object is to provide a spring clamp having projection and aperture means in the tail engaging loop section, for preventing the slipping of the holder on the cow"s tail.
A further object is to provide the leg engaging ends of the clamping arms with apertures, into which the flesh is forced by the clamping action, thereby preventing slipping of the clamp on the leg of the cow.
A further object is to provide the tail engaging loop with spring tongues, so that after the holder has been placed on the tail, it can be further prevented from slipping, by passing the hair on the cows tail up wardly and downwardly and clamping the same under said spring tongues.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description procoeds, the invention resides in the details of construction and combination and arrange ment of parts, hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein described can be made within the .scope of what is claimed, without departing Fig. 5 is a view showing the apertured form applied to a cows tail and leg. 7 Fig. .6 is a perspective view of another form of the invention, showing spring tongues carried by the tail engaging loop.
Fig. 7 is a top plan view of the same, showlng the tongues clamping the hair of a cows tail.
- Fig. .8 is a section on line 8-8ot Fig.6, showing the hair clampedunder the tongues.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates one of the hind legs of a cow, 2 the hook thereof and 3 the tendon leading from said hock. The holder 5 is formed from a single piece of sheet spring metal, curvedly bentupon itself as at 6, thereby forming a loop and also forming arms 7 and 8, each arm is provided with compound curves 9 and 10, the extreme ends of the arms 7 and 8 are formed into rolls 11. The rolls 11 are adapted to engage the flesh of the leg of a cow so that the rolls 11, will engage the leg in such a manner so that the skin and fleshy part of the leg, including the tendon 3, will be received by the opening 12, formed by the arms of the holder. The tail engaging loop 13, is provided with struck in spurs 14:, adapted to engage the cows tail when the holder is sprung around the same. It will be seen that a holder is provided in which positive holding of the cows tail during the milking operation is assured.
In Figs. 4: and 5 another form. of the invention is shown, there being apertures 15 in the tail engaging looped portion of the holder and also apertures 16 and 17 in the rolls l1 and arms 7 and 8. These apertures 15, 16 and 17 are adapted to receive the skin and flesh of the cows tail and leg when the holder is clamped thereon, as shown at 18, thereby providing means for preventing slipping of the holder on the tail or leg of the cow.
In Figs. 6, 7 and 8 another form of the invention is shown. This form is provided with tongues 19, which are adapted to receive the hair on the tail of the cow and securely clamp the same into the elongated apertures 20. The best method of doing the same is for some of the hair to be passed upwardly from below the tail engaging loo and some downwardly from above the tail engaging loop, in both cases the hair is clamped under the tongues which being made oi. spring material will clamp the hair into and n ng eme th he el n e slots. Y
The invention havingbeen set forth what is claimed new and. useful is -v 1. A device of the class described comprising a single piece of spring metalhent to rolls adapted to clamp upon the leg of a cow.
2: Ad evice. of the class described comprising-a piece of spring metal bent to form a 'tail'engaging'loop havingspring tongues integral thegewith and normally within elongated slots at diametrically opposite sides of said loop and having outwardly bent ends adapted to be engaged by the finger for releasing the hair, said tongues being adapted to receive the hair on the tail of a cow thereby additionally preventing slipping of the holder, arms extending rearwardly and curving outwardly and inwardly thereby forming a recess for the reception of the flesh and the converging ends of said arms having rolls to engage and press upon and clamp the flesh of the le ot' a cow.
In testimony Whereoi We hereunto afiix our signatures.
