ABRAHAM 'JOHNsON, or OPPORTUNITY, 'wAsniNaroNf COW-TAIL HOLDER.
7 Application filed March 7,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABmHAM JoHNsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Opportunity, in the county of Spokane and State of Washington, have invented a new and useful Cow-Tail Holder, of which the 2 following is a specification.
This invention; relates to cow tail holders, and the object thereof is to provide a simple cheaply constructed device of this character which may be quickly applied and removed and will efiectively prevent the switching of a cows tail.
WVith the foregoing and other objects in' view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement ofparts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention,
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 represents a side elevation of A cooperating fastening member 4 is counted at the other end of the strap 1 and as shown comprises a wireloop substantially rectangular in form with one cross bar of which the strap 1 is engaged and secured by stitching or otherwise. The opposed cross bar 5 has an inwardly extending laterally deflected loop 6 with which the hook 2 is de signed to be detachably engaged as is shown clearly in Fig.2.
The member ls constructed of heavy wire one end of which has an eye 7, which wire after the formation of the cross bar 5 is ex tended to provide a substantially U-shaped loop 8 with an eye 9 formed at its free end; which is hooked around the end of the cross bar 5 at a point opposite to that which is en- 1923. Serial No. 623,488
gaged'by the eye 71 The ci'oss bar 5 of the 1 loop 8 has pivotally mounted thereon a tail clampingmember 10. This member 10 is composed of two outwardly bowed jaws 11 and 12, the free ends 13 and 14 of which are arranged in lapping relation when the i are "closed and the inner jaw l t has a series of teeth 15 which are designed toen; the
hairs of the cows tail when the devic is applied and prevent slipping oi the member 10 on the cows tail. The inner ends of the gaws 11 and 12 have diverging ends 16 and 17 with apertured lugs 18 at their inner ends which are arranged in lapping relation and is passed. A coiled spring l9'is mounted on the cross bar 8 betweenthelugs of clamp 10 and the ends of said spring are engaged onethrough which the cross bar 8? of the loop 8" with the inner face of the end 16 and the other with end 17 asis shownat20 whereby the spring exerts its tension to force these ends apart, and force the jaws i1 and 12 toward each other into clamping position.
' From the above description-it will be obviousthat this holder may be quickly applied by simply'passing the strap 1 around the, cows hind leg and engaoingthe hook 2 withthe loop 6 otthe member 4. The clamp 1O isthcn snappedaround. the cows tail and all possibility or switching oi the tail will thusv be prevented.
Various changes 1n the form, shape, p,ro-
portion andother minor details oi. construe: tion maybe. made without departing from the spirit and principle or sacrificing or the at vantages of: the claimed invention.
1 claim In a cow tail holder a leg encircling strap, a tail clamp, a connector between said'clamp and strap comprising a single piece of vire bent to lorni two loops arranged in longitudinal alinement and one loo ,havint; a
crossbar cquipged with miner-a1: y deflected loop. the tail clamp being pivotally mounted on the cross bar of the other loop, and a hook carried by said, strz'ipifor detachable engagement with said deflected loop.
In testimony that .l claini'the lbregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my s-iignature in the presence of two witnesses.
