To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HARRY JOHN WINN, a citizen of the United States, residing at River Falls, in the county of Pierce and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Comb- Cleaners, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved comb cleaning machine and the principal object of the invention is to provide a machine including a housing having cleaning brushes extending longitudinally therethrough and rotatably mounted, provision being made for placing a comb in the housing with the teeth extending between the cleaning brushes thus causing the comb to be cleaned as the brushes are rotated.

Another object of the invention is to pro vide improved scraping means for cleaning the brushes as they revolve to clean the comb.

Another object of the invention is to provide an improved type of housing so constructed that the cover may be removed and carry with it the scraping means and further to so construct this machine that the rollers may be driven from a common driving gear operatively connected with one of the end walls of the housing.

Another object of the invention is to so construct this machine that access may be readily had to the interior of the housing for the purpose of cleaning the housing when necessary.

This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view showing the improved comb cleaning machine in side elevation Fig. 2 is a view showing theimproved machine in end elevation,

The housing or body of this cleaner is provided with end walls 10 and 11 having supporting feet 12 and connected by the side walls 13 and let, the side wall 13 being pro vided with upper and lower sections, the lower section 15 forming a closure pivotally tion. It will thus be readily seen that when the closure 15 is open, the screen 19 will be swung upwardly and dirt in the housing will be moved toward the closure 15 and will pass out of the housing. I

Rollers 20 extend through the housing and carry bristles 21, the rollers and bristles forming cleaning brushes for cleaning the comb 22 passed into the housing through an opening formed in one of the end walls. These rollers are provided with end pins 23 passing through openings formed in the wall 10 to rotatably mount the rollers and at the opposite ends will be provided with pockets 24: having side openings 25 in which will be slidably mounted the end portions of the pins 26 carried by the stems 27. A spring 28 is mounted in the pocket of each roller and engages the stem 27 so that the stem will be held extended as shown in Fi 6. The stems have their outer end portions squared as shown so that the gears 28 will be held against rotation upon the stems. These gears will be positioned between the guard strip 29 and the end wall 11 and will have their teeth inter-meshing so that rotary mo tion will be transmitted from one gear to the other and of course both rollers rotated at the same time. In order to actuate this device, there has been provided a driving gear 30 meshing with the teeth of one of the gears 28 and provided with a turning crank 31 by means of which the gears 30 may be easily rotated. The cover 82 fits upon the housing and is divided into side sections from which extend scrapers 33 for cleaning the brushes in the manner shown in Figs. 4c and 5.

From the above description the operation of the device will be readily understood.

I claim 1. A comb cleaning device comprising a housing having side walls terminating at their lower ends in spaced relation, the lower portion of one of the side walls being pivot- :2 l ly mounted at its lower end for permitting the lower sectlon of the wall to swmg outardly to an open pos1t1on, a fabric strip lit connected with the pivoted end of the wall section and extending to restupon the lower end of the second wall when the pivoted wa l section is in it closed position and comb cleaning means within the housing 2. A housing having side walls terminating at their lower ends in spaced relation, the lower portion of one side well being pivotally mounted at its lower end for permitting the lower section of the wall to swing outwardly to an open position, a closure for the open space between the walls connected with the pivoted end of the wall section and extending to rest upon the lower (11(l of the second wall when the pivoted wnll section is in it closed position, and clean" ing means within the housing.
