GENNARO WUNDERLIGH AND LEWIS H. MAUCH, OF PHILADELPHIA, PA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHUTTER-FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 125,425, dated April 9, 1872.
Specification describing certain Improvements in Window-Shutter Fastenings, invented by GENNARO WUNDERLICH and LEWIS H.
MAUGH, ot' the city of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania.
The object of our invention is to provide for a simpler, stronger, cheaper, and more secure windowshutter or windowblind fastening than has heretofore been done; and it consists in the placing a diagonal plate to allow the bowing'of the shutter, and in the form and adaptation of the bolt-receiving staple.
I Figure I is a front view of a window-frame and shutter embodying our invention. Fig. l[ is a cut sectional view through line 00 as, Fig. I. Fig. III is a detached side View of the look.
A is the window-frame, to which the shutter B is hinged in the ordinary manner. To the lower part of the shutter B is attached and laid therein the lock 0, which consists of the front plate a, the bolt 1), the boltholder or guide 0 c, and the spring (I, and the trigger or handle a, which forms the continuation of the bolt b. To the lower or bottom part of the window-frame is attached by screws, and therein laid, the plate D, which is pierced with two or more circular holes, ff, in size corresponding with the bolt 1), in order to receive the same readily, when required. ,To the side in the lower part of the frame A, or into the wall of the house, as circumstances may require, is screwed, driven in, or otherwise fastened the staple or bolt-receiver -E. The nose or front projection of this staple is made slanting on the upper side to the front, for the purpose of allowing the bolt 1), to slide easily and readily over the front projection, in order to fall into the recess h.
It will be readily understood that in order to open the shutter B the trigger or handle 0 is pulled upward, and a push sufiiciently strong is given to the shutter to swing it against the frame A or the wall of the house, by which the bolt 1) slides over the front projection g of the staple E, and drops into the recess h. Also, in closing the shutter the trigger e is pulled and kept upward, and the shutter is swung around, which can be performed with one finger, and the bolt is deposited in one of the circular holes ff provided for in the plate D. The object of having two or more holes in the plate D is for the use of bow-windows, and also, if desired, not to close the shutter entirely, in order to obtain light and ventilation in the room.
Having thus fully describedour invention, we desire to claim- The lock 0, consisting of the plate a, the bolt 1), the guides c c, the spring (I, and the trigger e, the diagonal plate D having two or more holes, ff, and the staple or bolt-receiver E with its projection g and recess I1, in combination with the window-frame A and the shutter B, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
