' MATCH-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented aaa. 22, rara.
Application fled May-10, 1916, Serial No. 96,480. Renewed August 11, 1917. `Serial. No. 185,798.
ITo all whom z't may concern.'
Be it known that I, ALBERT R. LARRABEE,
'a citizen of the United States of America,
residing at New York city, New York, -have invented a new and' useful Match-Holder,
of which the following is a specitication.
My invention rela'tes to a new and useful match holding device. It has become the very general practice to provide matches in package form fromwhlch the matches are broken for use as desired. Such a package of matches is ordinarily designed to be carried in the pocket, but inasmuch as it would be desirable to mount them at times ina manner similar to the mounting of a match box, I have provided a new and useful holder therefor to which such packages may be readily applied and byiwhichy the same may be properly `supported for use.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention in its preferred form showinga package of matches mounted thereon kin dotted outline.
' form of my inventlon.
.1 is the main frame or backing which may havestandards or clips 2-2 for mounting the frame onla suitable support. VThe particular form of the standard is immaterial to the invention and may be modified in a great variety of ways, although the clip form lby which the device may be readily attached to or detached from a suitable support has many advantages. 8 is a ledge or platform located at the lower edge of the backing 1. In the preferred form of the invention shown in Figs. 1 to 4, 4 represents what I may term a key portion which is innthe form of a blade so spaced above the ledge 3 and away from the backing 1 that it may be slid into a package of matches `so as to properly hold the same against the backing and upon the ledge. For example, in Figs. i and 2,' a package of matches is illustrated in which 5--5 represent the matches secured together at the lower edge of the package. 6 is an upturned fiap at the lower edge which is provided on its outer surface with a coating of suitable Fig. 2 is a cross section, the package ofv Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a modied y same are struck thereon.` 'Ihe fastening for the lower edge of the several layers of matches and for the flap 6 is indicated at 7 Fig. 2. Since this ,is below the key portion 4, it follows that the package of matches cannot be lifted from the supporting ledge but can only be detached therefrom by a lateral movement. In Figs. 3 and 4 I have shown a structure in which I have arranged to support two packages of matches. In these {igures 43-4a represent twoy keysarranged at the front and back of themain backing or body portion 1a. I have also provided ledges 33a at the front and back thereof. I havey also provided a modified forni of clip indicated at Qa-Z In Fig. 5 I have shown a Vstill -further modification in which 1b represents the main frame or backing.l 2b represents a clip atvthe rear@ of said backing and in this instance formed integrally therewith. 3* represents the lower supporting ledge, while 4bl represents the equivalent of 4the key or blade 4 described in connection with the preceding igures. In this particular form the ledge 3b is former'. by bending forward the lower edgeof the main body 1". This bent foward part is then turned up and curled inwardly and downwardly to form the key 4b, as shown. The front may have an opening 8 to expose the material against which the matches are to be struck when thesame are lassembled or mounted on a support of the type shown in Fig. 5.
What I claim is: 1. In a match package holder of the character described, a backing, a match support,
a key portion arranged slightly above said support and separated therefrom and forward'of Said backing, one end of said key portion being free to permit a match package to be slid on to the same by a movement transversely of said support and longitudinally of said key. I
2. In a match package holder of the character described, a backing, a match support, a key portion arranged slightly above and separated from said support and forward of said backing, said key portion being in the form of a blade projecting from one side of said device transversely toward the other side, one end of said blade being free to receive a match package whereby said package. may be slid laterally into final holding positio 3. In a match package holder of the charframe including'a backing, a match support 1 acter described, a backing, a match support at the front and rear thereof, transversely carried thereby, a key portion for transarranged key portions at the front and back versely engaging a match package, said key of said devices slightly above said support 5 portion being arranged slightly above and and separated therefrom, one end of eac'h disconnected from sald support and substankey being free to receive a match package 1: tially parallel thereto and forward of said whereby said package may be slid laterally backing.' into its final holding position.
Vel. In a match package holder, a main ALBERT R. LARRABEE.
