LOCK-CASE.
Patented lain iltl, timid Application led May 1,1916. Serial No. 94,818.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SAMUEL Il.. FRAIM, a citizen ot the United States, residing at Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Lock- Cases, ot which the following isa specification.
This invention relates to lock cases, the novel `features ot construction involved being herein shown as incorporated in a padlock but as will be clear from an understanding of the invention they may with advantage be applied to the cases ot other forms ot locks.
The primary object which I have in view is to provide a lock case Which While providing a strong, tight closure for the lock shall also provide simple easily applied means for maintaining the Working parts ot the lock in place and shall be ot cheap manufacture and easy of assembling.
With this object in view the invention consists of a lock case in which are combined the generic and specific features ot construction and arrangement of the parts substantially as hereinafter described and claimed.
ln Figures l to 3, I have shown the preferred construction ot the case. ln this drawing;
Fig. l is a side elevation oi a complete lock made in accordance With my invention.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the body ot the lock;
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional vien7 ot a complete lock.
ln this drawing 1 represents the body ot' the lock which is substantially circular in general contour having at one side oilset angular shoulders 2 with openings 3 therein tor the reception ot the ends of the shackle il: which latter is herein, shown as of the sliding type. rlhe side of the body l opposite to that at lwhich the shoulders 2 are placed is provided with a key opening the open ing being circular in form and having arranged therein a rotatable disk 6, slotted through the center tor the reception ot` a key.
The body 1 has formed in it a chamber which is as herein shown preferably circular in torna in order to permit the outer edges of the 'Walls thereof to be turned inward by spinning. Arranged Within the chamber are tivo disks 7 to which are attached the interior movable operative portions ot the lock.
The disks 7 are each in a. completed lock located a short distance from an outer edge ot the body, and outside ot these disks are arranged the face plates S ot the lock.
ln assembling the lock, the disks 7 between and to which the parts :tor locking the shackle and for-projecting the latter from the caseI when released are attached, are introduced into the body, and the disks are secured together. After one ot' the tace plates is introduced into the circular chainber of the body just inside the outer edge ot the latter, the outer edge is turned inward over the outer edge ot the face plate by spinning or in any other suitable Way. rl`he second tace plate is secured in place in the same Way as the lirst, and thus a comm plete substantially watertight closure is etliected with a minimum amount of labor, adjustment and manipulation, and the Working parts are held in place.
The tace plates preferably though not necessarily bear against some portions ot the interior disks in order to hold them in place while being attached to the body in the inanner described.
l claim;
A lock case comprising a substantially annular body member having a` circular opening through the same forming a cham ber, two disks arranged Within the opening and respectively located adjacent to the opposite edges ot the body member, oppositely arranged face plates located Within the circular opening and bearing on the adjacent disks, an annular iiange on both edges ot said body member projecting beyond the tace plates adapted to be turned over the edges oi the Jface plates to close the body member over said plates and secure the interior parts ot the lock in place.
In testimony whereof l atiiX my signature in the presence ot' two Witnesses.
