Description

THOMASS. WUHITE.
Stationary Wash Basins.
No.125,365. PatntedApril2,1872.

PATENT OFFICE.
THoMAs s. WHITE, OF GRAND HAVEN, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN STATIONARY WASH-BASINS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 125,365, dated April 2, 1872.
To whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS S. WHITE, of Grand Haven, in the county of Ottawa and State of Michigan have invented a new and drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon and being a part of this specification, in which my invention is shown in perspective and attached to a stationary basin.
The nature of this invention relates to an improved arrangement for emptying the basin of water whenever desired. The invention consists in attaching a pipe to the overflowpipe, the former receiving the direct discharge from the bottom of the basin, and beingprovided with a proper stop-cock or "alve, operated by a suitable rod projecting above the basinstand,'as more fully hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing, A represents a basinattached to the stationary stand B. The overflow-pipe usually employed is marked 0, and has its lower end connected with the Wastepipe D. In basins of this description a stopper is ordinarily employed to close an aperture opening into the waste-pipe, and this stopper is generally secured to the basin by a chain, which frequently becomes broken. When this occurs the person using the basin is compelled to plunge his hand into the Water in the basin to remove the stopper. To avoid this necessity I put a cook or valve, E, into the wastepipe, and operate it by means of a rod and handle, F, projecting above the stand, as shown. This cock should be put in between the basin and the junction of the overflow-pipe, as shown.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to.
secure by Letters Patent, is-- In combination, with the basin A, the wastepipe D, the overflow-pipe (J, the valve E, and rod F, all constructed, arranged, and operated substantially as described and shown.
THOMAS STEWART WHITE.
